Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be with us in just over a week on Friday. May 14, and you can begin pre-loading the game as of today! As you might expect, it's a big download clocking in at just over 84GB.
The pre-load is beginning to roll out if you're already pre-ordered the game (don't forget to take advantage of 6000 free Microsoft Points as well!), or if you haven't bought it yet, head to the Xbox app on mobile to begin downloading it.
Be aware that Mass Effect isn't officially built for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles despite what the Microsoft Store suggests, although it will feature faster loading - and support for 120fps gameplay on Series X.
Also, keep in mind that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members get 10% off the digital RRP!

So you cant download each game individually?
I kind of want this but at the same time I've played them several times and all 3 are free on gamepass through ea play...so is there really much point
@StylesT
Does seem too have a lot of quality of life improvements including combat and skills changed and improved as well as the usual update in graphics and loading times and improved framerates.
Edit
I could be wrong but doesn't the first not have proper widescreen support
And dont forget they include all the DLC where they never released a complete version on the 360
@StylesT @suikoden Keep in mind that it'll be added to EA Play after a year, so you could just play the games through Game Pass Ultimate next year. I wanted to buy this collection since I'm a huge Mass Effect fan, but considering its steep release price and that there's a huge day one update, I think I'll just wait and play it when it inevitably gets added to GPU.
@LtSarge
Don't think the price is that steep , three games have been remastered and expect first needed a lot of work, also 10 gig is not that huge seen plenty of games with bigger patches, the whole size of the game is smaller than some patches for CoD!!
But part of me thinks I should just wait till it's out on Game pass
Just cashed in 130000+ Microsoft Reward points to get this and Resident Evil 8. Couldn’t resist Mass Effect even though I was planning on holding off until it was reduced in price.
I tried to do it via the app and it only installed 100mb - anyone know why?
@suikoden The collection costs €70 in most places I've seen and that's more than new AAA releases. Had it been €40 or €50 then it would've been a good price point considering these are decade old games. Not to mention that the Mass Effect series needs to repair its reputation after Andromeda and setting a high price point for the collection is not a good way of doing that.
You know we live in troubled times when people say stuff like "also 10 gig is not that huge since plenty of games get bigger patches". That's the issue, a lot of games get huge patches and we shouldn't normalise this behaviour. This is supposed to be the definitive edition of the Mass Effect trilogy and they have the audacity to include a 10 GB day one patch? That's not okay.
@trev666: I thought I read something about some of the DLC being lost / omitted because some of the original source code was corrupted?
@LtSarge Yeah you are right..that's probably the sensible thing to do ..il just wait ...
@101Force there's one bit pinnacle station not in it and that was awful and redone better in me3 citadel dlc
@LtSarge
Your right about patches but cant see that changing anytime soon. Cancelled my pre-order got a big enough back log as it is and it's will come to gamepass , so does feel in someways like a waste of money and also have biomutant for this month and some switch games.
@Craigyy Because the game is not out yet. The full pre-load will probably be available a day or so prior to launch.
@StylesT
The updates to the first game especially are quite huge. Also 4K and 60fps is pretty great for games like these.
@SegataSanshiro I honestly enjoyed Andromeda for what it was there was no way it could out do the original 3 but the combat was awesome and I enjoyed the story. I really think people build up stuff to the point nothing can compete.
I can only download the 100 MB also which is wired will try closer to friday
@Dezzy 1440p120 IMO. Gonna be fantastic and never smoother.
I don't think 84.3 GB (plus the Day 1 patch, depending on if it overrides any of that initial installation) is really that bad for 3 games, even if they are remasters of old games plus DLC.
As for the 10 GB Day 1 patch, that is a bit much after initial thoughts, but that's actually not that bad when you consider it's 3 games.
Well it's essentially 3 games in 1 and 20+ gigs for 1 game is rather small actually for games nowadays.
As people have mentioned already, I'm on the 'wait for Game Pass' fence as it really doesn't feel like sense to spend money on game pass AND new games when you know it is coming soon enough. Basically I live life 1 year behind brand new - although these games aren't brand new really!
I can't get it to pre load no matter what I do it will only download the 100 mb file.
@KilloWertz I think that the day 1 patch is included on the download if you go digital
@StonyKL While Playing on Game Pass Exclusively might make sense on a tight budget, it is more recommended to buy the games to truly secure them to your Xbox account as games get removed every 15 days and if you have a life that prevents you to play 12-18 hours a day, or you're playing more than one game at the same time (that happens), and that game you're playing gets removed, you'll have no choice but to buy it, no matter what, if you want to continue immediately
@Arkantos2990 Definitely, as long as you don't pre-load it of course. Then you'd probably have to download a patch on release day, but I'm sure that is all pretty obvious already.
For 3rd party titles, I get it. There are some that have stayed on there, but others have left of course. First party titles will stay on there forever though, so technically there's no need to buy them ever. I still own/will buy the occasional first party title though. At least the really big ones that are really important to me. I own Gears 5 as an example, and will likely still buy games like Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield.
I know to some that seems dumb, but oh well. Also, one day I could decide I don't want Game Pass anymore (unlikely).
