When Microsoft acquired Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media, it got the rights to a bunch of studios. One of them was Alpha Dog - a Canadian mobile developer, known for creating "top-tier" 3D games for portable devices.
So what's the sudden interest in Alpha Dog, you ask? It's become the hot topic of the day - with Xbox fans discovering it's been actually been working on a new free-to-play mobile title, known as Mighty DOOM.
Yes, it's a brand new DOOM game, currently in early access on Google Play, which has been "flying under the radar" for a number of months now. The above trailer was posted on Bethesda's YouTube channel just a few days ago.
It's a single-touch run and gun shooter, where players must work their way through hundreds of levels while battling challenging bosses, levelling up, gaining powerful skills, looting new gear and upgrading legendary weapons.
You can find Mighty DOOM over on Google Play, but right now the game appears to be limited to specific regions. Alternatively, there's a selection of DOOM games (new and old) on Xbox Game Pass you can always check out.

@Medic_Alert
How come? Cause it's a mobile game? I mean if so, people need to realize mobile gaming has been bigger then PC and console gaming combined for years now. Just cause they don't do mobile (like myself) doesn't mean that's not where the money is at.
no blood? not doom
@Arcnail the is no such thing like "mobile gaming" just "mobile milking" by censored and bleached out of all integrity soulless sh*t
I dont mind if you have a studio that specifically makes mobile games. Its when games studios waste time and resources making mobile games that could be making the next great console or pc game
Looks like it's not yet available on the NA Google Play store. This doesn't look great, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I really enjoyed Doom RPG on mobile back in the day. Hopefully Mighty Doom is more fun to play that it looks.
Not interested in mobile gaming what so ever, Hard pass for me..
You gotta love seeing such pillars of entertainment get reduced down the minimum common denominator of cash grabbing, mind numbing "gameplay".
To each their own, I'm sure many will enjoy it, but I cannot help feeling like it devalues the brand.
@Medic_Alert Oh ya I know.. just saying it'll be better when people just get used to it happening. It's never going away.
@clvr
Only if it fails to make a profit.
@gingataisen I'm not talking monetary value, of course that will go up with mobile games raking in the whale cash; I was talking about historical value in the eyes of enthusiasts like myself.
Just like those two bad Hollywood flicks, a game like this only cheapens the overall DOOM brand in my eyes.
I'll pass, I have more than enough real Doom games to play on the go
I wonder what MS will do with this studio long term?
Traditional mobile gaming clearly isn't a focus for them when they have cloud gaming.
But then it would probably be very bad PR to disband them.
@clvr
Seriously? Is DOOM now a lesser experience to you because of an innocuous, free-to-play mobile game? If two bad movies skew your perception of the game that pioneered and popularized the FPS genre, you're not much of an "enthusiast". π
@gingataisen of course it's doesn't make the games any less fun to play, come on.
Probably I didn't explain myself well, but come on, don't be so antagonistic.
What I was trying to say is that such projects feel a bit out of place in the overall franchise, given its overall quality and impact, that's all.
That's the same as a bad movie in an otherwise good franchise, or a bad finale to a good series, or whatever; although not to the same degree, I'll concede.
I'd feel the same about a Zelda mobile cash grab, for example.
Hope it's clearer now, have a good one ππ»
@clvr
Very well. As for Zelda, do you remember that Zelda game for the Philips CD-i? DOOM will be fine, too.
You know what I would like to see? A "Mega Bloks Halo" style Doom game - remember that? "Project HAGGAR" as N-Space was calling it? The prototype that Microsoft shut down, largely because Halo was(is?) in a weird place with fans not too happy with 343's main games, so it was deemed not a good time to put out spinoffs? It actually looked like a really cool game; a nice third person shooter/platformer hybrid with tower defense elements in that you could drop/build various structures like turrets (kinda reminds me of Battalion Wars and/or Star Hawk). If anyone hasn't seen the Mega Bloks Halo, here's PtoP Online's video on it:

I wish that game happened; it legitimately looks interesting and fun. Outside of Splatoon, there aren't enough 3D shooters that look properly "cute" or "cartoony" like this, like a 3D take on Metal Slug sort of? At best you have that awful "overly corporate art" seen in titles like Fortnite, and that just sucks.
So yeah, I am not against the idea of a cutesy Doom spinoff on principle, but I would prefer a proper game over a mobile... anything. I think it would be cool to see a production like Haggar starring a cutesy, toylike DoomGuy/Doom Slayer rather than this mobile topdown title.
@SegataSanshiro
I'll see your Super Mario Bros. movie and raise you 1994's Double Dragon. π
@Medic_Alert No not normally, but normally the fanbase that gets a mobile game is usually the same fanbase that hasn't had a main entry in a long time.
Doom Eternal hasn't long launched, so at least the Doom fanbase has their main games and can ignore or engage with the mobile title as they see fit.
@clvr The Dwayne Johnson/Karl Urban Doom movie is a goddamn cheesy horror classic as far as I'm concerned.
@Medic_Alert I've seen the announcement, but not bothered to check out reactions yet.
My assumption was that the general reaction would be one of anger based on that fanbase's hatred of sharing their franchises outside of the PS hardware.
When I have the mental fortitude to look, I will go check them out.
This looks very good, I really like it
I wish a DOOM game in this style release for pc and consolesπ(with some changes that make it like a indie game for pc/consoles, obviously)
