Pinch me!
Still cannot believe this is on Xbox let alone game pass!
Awesome!
And hasn't this really angered the Playstation Nation - having to pay $70 for the game - even though Xbox owners also would have to pay that much for this OR pay a Subscription Fee to play the game whilst it remains on the service.
Yes Game Pass owners could buy the Game at a 'discount' to keep it forever - but they have also paid money to MS to pay developers and publishers to access the game on Game Pass.
The fact that its available through Game Pass doesn't change the fact that for ALL those who don't subscribe, they are in exactly the same position as Playstation owners.
As for getting a 'discount' if GP subscribers want to actually 'buy' the game, they have paid to 'rent' it already so that 'discount' offsets some of that cost and its more like a 'used' game.
From what I hear, one of the ways MS may 'pay' publishers/devs for their games on Game Pass is by the numbers of GP subscribers that download and play the game rather than a 'fixed' fee up front - so they would of received 'something' from the GP subscriber already and a discount means they don't end up paying 'more' to own the game having already paid to play it on Game Pass.
@BAMozzy That's a really cool story. Except that I got 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate for the price of 4 games on a sweet deal. Even paying the normal annual cost you come out way ahead. Of course you don't "own" the game. But who really wants to own a sports game after a year? And if you did, the price of them plummet quickly in preparation for the next year's iteration. Most games people beat and move on and don't really need to own it. It's like Netflix. There are a seldom few that people will return to most games. Nice thing is every Microsoft game will be on it forever.
@BAMozzy What are you waffling about ?
@SegataSanshiro There's truth to some of that. I'm not sure it's all a good thing that people think of it as disposable, but they do. I personally prefer owning games that I have a particular attachment to, I like having a huge library so I can browse the bookshelf choose something that I never picked up before, or pick up an old favorite on a whim. Game Pass puts a timer on non-MS games (every day is March 31st lol!) so it kind of doesn't work for me in a lot of cases. I have it, but I end up buying everything I like from it eventually when it's on sale. My total library of owned games is several times the size of what's available at any moment on Game Pass, though, so I have the inverse thing. I can browse Game Pass to see the small amount of games I could try out, or browse my library for a vast archive. And I went out of my way to re-buy old favorites digitally. The 3 Mass Effects (oops..who knew the remaster would happen), Jade Empire, KotR, etc.
But Game Pass can still be a great buy. Especially since you get discounts, so I recoup some of the sub money through buying anyway. I wouldn't be playing The Show, but since it's launch hype on GP, I'm going to play it this week. I bought Super Lucky's Tale and then they dumped NSLT....I didn't want to rebuy so I played on Game Pass. Tried Control before buying, etc, etc. It has its value, though much reduced, even to me. But man, when the MS games arrive that will really change the dynamic. And probably the monthly price with it
@SegataSanshiro ....I also save plastic cups and tubs from cream cream cheese spread....
But yeah, that's definitely valid. For me I think the timer turns me off. I played FFXV for a few months, moved onto something different, I'll probably finish it next November or so.... If I'd played on GP, I'd end up having to buy it to finish it anyway. .
For MS's first party games from now on though, it's Game Pass all the way. No need to buy them since there's no timer on them. I pity the people that wanted to play RDR2 and got, like a month If GP spares me from buying 2 games a year I'd have otherwise bought, I made my money back.
