Microsoft Flight Simulator has today unleashed its third World Update following the Japan and USA focused updates last year, and this one heads to the UK and Ireland to provide simmers with a "dazzling flight experience."
The update adds high-resolution 3D photogrammetry for the cities of Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, London and Oxford, along with five new meticulously hand-crafted airports (Barra, Liverpool, Land’s End, Manchester-Barton and Out Skerries), visual and logistical improvements to 85 more area airports, architectural elements, 70 custom landmarks and points of interest, and more.
In addition, the update introduces three more new activities into the game, which include an "Iconic Flight in the Northern Isles", along with two more Landing Challenges - one located in the north, and one in the south!
The Microsoft Flight Simulator UK and Ireland World Update is free beginning today via the in-game Marketplace, and console users can look forward to trying it out when the game arrives for Xbox Series X and S this summer.

That headline confused me. For a second I thought the update was called "Third World" and I was thinking "bloody hell @FraserG Brexit hasn't knackered us up THAT much yet!"
Also, I'm eager to see this come to Series X. I think I heard our PC audibly laugh at my wife when she tried to run it.
@VenomousAlbino Oh dear, I didn't put two and two together with that headline! Made a slight adjustment
@FraserG @VenomousAlbino lol same here! I didn't know whether to say anything or whether I was just being a bit thick 😅
@ralphdibny you shouldn't have said anything; I already took the bullet for you.
@ralphdibny @VenomousAlbino It's been one of those days. I blame too much coffee.
@VenomousAlbino haha don't worry it's more of a vindication than anything
Can't wait for this to come out on console. I know it's not the best platform for it but neither is my mid range "gaming" laptop.
I have a little wireless keyboard that should help. Hopefully they allow mixing and matching with keyboard + controller. A dedicated flight control kit especially for the XBSX would be nice too...
When is this coming to console
@IsThatATitleist3 summer this year.
@MetalGear_Yoshi don't give them ideas. A dedicated flight stick controller is just the kind of stupid sh*t I'd buy.
@VenomousAlbino ikr. Never really played a flight sim before but I'll definitely convince myself that I need to drop hundreds of dollars on a flight stick for one game 🤦♂️
@IsThatATitleist3 They say it's coming in the northern hemisphere summer.
