After confirming Metro Exodus will be receiving a next-gen upgrade in 2021, the teams at 4A Games and Deep Silver have now outlined the first details of what the upgrade will consist of when it launches later this year.
As announced in a development update post, Xbox Series X owners can expect to find the game running at 4K/60FPS, complete with fully raytraced reflections and lighting. The Xbox Series S version on the other hand will target 1080p, again with a frame rate of 60FPS. These features will be wrapped up with dramatically reduced loading times, spatial audio, controller latency improvements, and the ability to change the field of view.
It's certainly a lot of enhancements that will push the Xbox Series X to its limit. Metro Exodus was already an immensely pretty game on the Xbox One, so seeing that improved to an extent such as this is always welcoming.
"These Gen 9 console versions will release later this year and will be available as a FREE upgrade to all current owners – and we’re delighted to confirm that we will support Smart Delivery on Xbox to deliver this upgrade."

Do we know if it will support smart delivery or a free upgrade?
@Terrin Yes, it'll support Smart Delivery We've added that info into the bottom of the article now.
@FraserG awesome!! I'll wait to play it then as I bought it during the holiday sale
Nice, I own all 3 Metro games but haven't gotten around to playing them yet, But this is awesome news..
The current Metro Exodus already supports spatial audio on Xbox/Windows via Windows Sonic for Headphones/Dolby Atmos.
I am guessing that spatial audio blurb is more for the PlayStation side.
Now this is what devs can achieve when putting proper time and effort into next gen consoles.
Full RT at 4K 60FPS.
I think only Spiderman MM has done that so far, but that wasn't 4K and alot of the settings were dialled back.
This is great news for those of use who have bought the game, but have not gotten around to playing it.
I may just revisit the game with all these updates!
