We've got another two anniversaries to celebrate today, and they're big ones!
The original Gears of War first released for Xbox 360 all the way back on November 7, 2006 (in North America), with today marking its 14th birthday. Gears of War 2 also released a couple of years later on November 7, 2008.
Of course, these two classics went on to spawn an entire franchise which has most recently seen the arrivals of Gears 5 and Gears Tactics, and the original game was even remastered in 2015 as an "Ultimate Edition".
To this day, Gears remains recognised as one of the most beloved Xbox franchises of all time, and the first Gears of War was ultimately one of the most critically-acclaimed titles of the entire Xbox 360 era.

Gears of War was what sold me on the back-then next-gen consoles.
Really wishing Microsoft has just kept Gears 5 for Series X launch and built from the ground for that console. It would have made a huge and similar mark.
I remember playing the original on a small 19” TV all them years ago and it blew me away. It went on to become one of my favourite co-op games ever while I had a 360.
I missed out on 4 and 5 due to not having an Xbox one so I can’t wait to jump in on the X, for me it’s a bigger deal than Halo.
Gears is what got me onto the Xbox, it’s also why my decision choosing between the PS5 and Series X is difficult. Gears 4 was probably the best value game I’ve ever owned seeing as it also included ALL the previous Gears games too.
Just finished replaying the original trilogy last night. Fitting.
Gears of War 2 was my favourite and just felt like an extension of the first, Gears of War 3 was a good Conclusion to the story.
Judgment I thought was a good addition to the story but wouldn’t have felt I’d missed anything if I hadn’t played it.
Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 kinda lost it for me and I felt it was just a way of milking the Gears of War name, I’d have been happy if it was left at the 360 games,
Gears 1 is my favorite game of all time, Can't wait to play Gears Tactics on Nov 10..
I bought it at launch and 2, 3, 4 and 5 as well...
Would love a Series X remastered collection...
@BAMozzy Would love full remakes or quality remasters up to the level of Gears 5. Not like Ultimate edition, which felt crap. It was all loose and floaty with the aiming. On both console and with high PC fps.
The original PC port is still the best way to experience Gears 1 imo.
Hi there fellow gamers. The first Gears of War was great.
I still remenber playing the game in my old standard-definition 60hz tv with composite AV cables and being wowed by it.
Then I got my very first HD tv......
I couldn´t belive my eyes. All the details in Marcus Fenix armour as well as the textures and minor details from the enemies and the environment that I just couldn´t see before.
Mind blowing at the time.
Great series and my personal favourite Xbox franchise.
GOW3 is still one of the best tps ou there in my oppinion.
