Konami has confirmed following a recent leak that eFootball PES 2021 will be a "streamlined season update," but a next-gen entry for the series is also in the works for next year.

In a statement, the company explained that the sheer scale of its intentions for its next-gen debut meant it had to scale back its efforts for this year, but it's "still extremely confident" that PES 2021 will offer more than enough thrills to tide fans over ahead of the next entry in the series.

As for the next-gen project, PES will finally transition from the Fox Engine to the Unreal Engine, and the game will allow for more realistic player models and animations, enhanced physics, photorealistic visuals, and much more. Additionally, both the myClub and Master League modes will apparently receive large updates.

Konami says it's aiming to begin testing its next-gen PES game in mid-2021 with a release date targeted for later in the year, while eFootball PES 2021 for Xbox One will launch at an affordable anniversary price and will also come with several bonuses. No release date has been provided for this year's game as of yet.
