Can I use a $10 prepaid xbox card that is typically used to purchase games and DLC with to pay for the $10 one month xbox live plan?
I hate to spend $60 for the year when I realistically will only get to play a couple of weekends out of the year mainly during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.
I don't think you can, no. Redeemed credit can only be spent on games, DLC and season passes AFAIK. (If that's not the case someone please correct me).
You CAN buy just a months XBL though - you don't have to pay for 12 months up front.
@stylon:
Thanks for that information. I do not want to use a credit card though. Unless there are some one month xbox live prepaid cards that I am unaware of.
You can definitely buy a month's worth of Gold. I buy a year from CDKeys which charge around £20 (approx half the price or around the cost of 2.5 months if bought separately) I know you may not play a lot but that is still not very much and at least you can get around 24 free games as well. You will need to keep up a subscription though to keep playing those games.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@stylon:
In-store or online?
I have never seen them at any of my local retail outlets.
It would have to be in-store for my needs because I am not using a credit card.
I do not own one and will not get one even if it is a pre-paid credit card.
I just keep buying the games I want to play that I know come with a 2 day free trial and have been using them very sparingly.
Thank you guys for your assistance.
@VioletTusk: I believe both retail in games shops and Online sells them. It is not essential that you have a credit card either as they all accept a debit card (like Visa offered with practically all bank accounts) or you could use Paypal too with some online stores. I don't own or want a Credit Card either and there is NO way I will enter my card details onto my consoles. I use Paypal primarily or my debit card if Paypal is not an option to buy pre-paid cards.

Here's a link to a 1 month card... you can pay using PayPal. You can get them in stores as well but unless you hardly use your xbox at all it is a false economy as bamozzy points out. For comparison I've included the 12 month card. Often they have these discounted to around £22 which is a bargain for 12 months gold and a few dozen 'free' games over the course of a year!
