@LtSarge ah good to see you back! Join in man, I kept your seat warm for ya so I'm happy to hand back the reigns with regards to voting games etc if you want it back! Not that I've done much, just wanted to keep this game pass club going as it would be a shame if it dropped off.

Why did you leave? I think the bods over at PS reckoned it was the trolls on that site but I never saw what happened, you don't have to tell me though if you don't want to. Your departure sparked alot of discussion, I don't know if you've seen the PS forums etc but sounds like it was a big loss for everyone that you left so I'm sure they'd be happy to see your back/know your ok etc.

See ya!

@ralphdibny Nah it's fine, keep going like you've been doing. I mentioned in another thread that I probably won't be as active as before on the site so it would be more fitting that somebody else kept the thread going. You're doing a great job by the way!

It's more my fault actually. I behaved stupidly towards some people which has been a recurring thing whenever discussions became heated. I decided then that I needed to let go and move on from the site because I couldn't continue like this. Which is why I'm keeping my activity here to a smaller degree in order to keep myself in check.

I really love games which is why I want to keep talking about them with people, but I have to do that in moderate amounts for the time being.

@LtSarge ah fair enough, yeah we all love games, I don't understand the divide. The console wars should be a playful thing not a hateful thing. I'd pretty much apply that to everything really. The divides in every day topics have become so hateful that you can't even make a joke or have an opinion without offending someone!

@Z3u5000 I'm pretty sure it is as it was on the July Xbox show and they said everything was going to game pass. It's an Xbox owned studio now

@Krzzystuff This game will be really popular among stoners and recreational drug enthusiasts.

@Z3u5000 lol I'm in Canada and I'm expecting a shipment of edibles later today actually so I'm down. My first Xbox experience was on Wednesday with an edible and hellblade...was interesting.

Any other thoughts on observation from peeps?

We are moving onto Blair witch now,

We'll do a two week schedule on this as that's the feedback I've received (please chime in if you need longer and we'll go back to the 3 week schedule).

So chapter 1-9 on week 1
Chapter 10-17 on week 2

I put a few hours into Blair witch yesterday. I will say that I was wondering when the chapters would change but it turns out the game doesn't inform you what chapter you are on unless you save your game and then your file will say which one. Didn't realise I was on chapter 7 until I saved, I thought I was still in chapter 1!

Anyway it's been good so far, didn't really know what to expect. There was one really scary moment, probably because I wasn't expecting it. I've seen the film a long time ago but I don't really remember it and I also remember it not being a scary film. I do get it was kind of an important film when it came out because it defined the found footage subgenre. I also believe it was marketed as being "real" which might be why people thought it was a scary film when it came out.

Anyway the game is good, the frame rate can be a bit choppy which seems to be a thing with these indie walking sim/narrative adventure games I've played lately (observation/what remains of edith finch). I know this might not be a problem for most people but it makes me feel really sick for some reason, like motion sickness or something. It's not terrible in Blair witch, it's mainly when you look at the ground (I normally look and explore everywhere in a game) so I've just decided to move on through the game without exploring and looking at the ground too much which is probably how the game is meant to be played to be honest lol

Anyway, I will probably polish the game off today!

@ralphdibny You're almost halfway through the game in that case. Sounds like a short and sweet experience!

I was planning on starting it up during the weekend but a lot of unexpected things happened and I wasn't in the mood for a horror game because of that. I've been trying to cheer myself up with games like Persona 5 Royal, Ys VIII and Dragon Quest III (yes I'm playing three JRPGs at the same time, I'm crazy lol) but hopefully I can get into the game throughout the coming days.

ralphdibny

@LtSarge ahh you ok??

Yeah those jrpgs sound like a time sink!

Should be short and sweet but I've just spent ages looking around for a handle 🤦‍♂️ so I'll have to see if I can finish it today!

Well I finished up Blair witch yesterday in the end definitely a freaky game! I think the monsters were scarier in the middle of the game than right at the end though because if you get killed by a monster in the final house bit then you see its face which takes the edge off to be honest. Looking it up after, I see there's actually multiple endings and the game guides you toward getting the bad ending (which I did). To get the good ending you actually have to do a lot of stuff that's antithetical to playing a video game (don't collect the carved branch things, don't do stuff that the witch tells you to do etc). For the latter, I feel like I may not have been able to progress if I hadn't done what I was told. Im probably not going to play it again though because I don't think the second ending sounds like it's worth it really.

Looking forward to hear what others think of this game!

See ya!

LtSarge

@ralphdibny Yeah it's all good now. Glad to hear that you've finished the game! I just started it today and the game is not what I expected at all. I love how detailed and fleshed-out the inventory as well as the game mechanics are. I decided to look around at the stuff Ellis was carrying and he had one of those early 2000s cellphone with the Snake mini-game on it. I used to play that all the time as a kid on my phone! I even got an achievement while trying to go for a high score, lol. I also like how it's (supposedly) optional that you can answer calls and messages, which gives the player a bit of inventory management.

Solving puzzles and killing monsters are very clever as well. Viewing a video tape while in the same place as it was shot in order to change the environment realtime is so cool. Moreover, using Bullet to find out where the monsters are and then using the flashlight to fend them off is also a very neat idea, which I think resembles the gameplay style of Alan Wake if I'm not mistaken.

But yeah, I've only played an hour or so thus far but the game has definitely captured my attention. It's really interesting and engrossing and I can't wait to play more.

@LtSarge haha yeah I had a laugh playing snake in 4K, I got the achievement for it too. I've been meaning to try out Alan wake, especially as it's on game pass now, shame that American nightmare bit isn't included though.

I think I didn't know what to expect either tbh, I was shocked when the first scary bit happened and then I remembered that it was a horror game!

See ya!

LtSarge

@ralphdibny Yeah I'm also playing it like it's not a horror game. Compared to other Bloober games, this one is very mild in terms of the scare factor. It could be because it's based on a movie franchise and the publisher wanted the game to be more streamlined. Either way, I'm enjoying it a lot so far and it's starting to become really crazy. Love it!

If people want, we could play Alan Wake next. It's also a game that I've been meaning to play and I've had it in my backlog for a long time now. Especially now since Remedy is releasing Alan Wake DLC for Control (and the game itself is set in the same universe as Alan Wake), so I'd like to experience the original game before tackling that one.

So I just recalled that Battletoads and Tell Me Why chapter 1 will be coming out on Game Pass next week and the week after respectively. I'd love to play those games on Game Club, how about you guys?

Well I completed Blair Witch just now. I got the bad ending. But I also know Bullet survived, so that's good. I mostly enjoyed my time with the game, but some parts were so damn dark I just walked around trying to find my way. But after all, I liked it. I may even try to get good ending some time. Not very scary per se, but atmosphere was spot on most of the time. I got strong Alan Wake vibes (that's good).

I am also interested Battletoads and Tell Me Why, so those sounds good. But if you want to play Alan Wake next then I skip it for now. I love that game but not gonna play it again so soon (just played it some time ago).

@Justifier I think it would be a better idea to postpone Alan Wake in that case since Battletoads is coming out on the 20th and we're still on our first week of Blair Witch. So there's no point in starting it up next.

Personally it'd be exciting to play Battletoads and Tell Me Why on release on Game Club since nobody will have played them yet because these are new releases, which means more discussions and hopefully more people joining in. Also it would be interesting to play Tell Me Why on a periodic basis as the episodes are being released.

LtSarge

ralphdibny

@LtSarge either, or maybe both sound good to me. I werent that keen on another narrative adventure game but I looked it up and it sounds interesting so I am down for Tell Me Why.

I'm guessing it won't be a long one if it's episodic too so maybe we could do that and Battletoads simultaneously.

I need to play the first Battletoads on rare replay, might fire it up if the new one is going to be our next game. I always assumed it was going to be a hard game though so I'll see how I fare with it.

See ya!

ralphdibny

@Justifier well done on beating it, my dog survived too thankfully! Yeah I was kinda reluctant to go off the beaten track and only really ended up doing it when I couldn't work out what to do next. When that happened I realised that you just end up looping back on yourself. The game is real interesting in that way, I wonder how they achieved that effect and the effect in the final house bit where you kind of turn around and go back where you came from only it's totally different to the bit that you came through.
