@DRL yeah, I checked that too. Is there some sort of matching like there was in 2? My pal has finished the game and I'm only just starting the third area so that might be the issue.

@crippyd: To my knowledge, if you're using the password system, you can pair up at any time and the game will automatically adjust your attributes to match the host for the length of the session. Maybe it's different if he's in NG+ and you're a much lower level than he is? I didn't get to test that scenario.

I just checked out the strategy guide I got the other day and didn't see anything to help with this. I'll sift through the net and see if I can come up with an answer.

@DRL Thanks very much for your help and time Dave. I had a quick look on the net (which was the basis of my above comment) but couldn't really see much.

@crippyd: No problem. I just had a look around and couldn't really come up with anything. Everything I'm reading just says you need to be in Ember form and can't summon someone in an area where a boss has already been beaten. Outside of that, it doesn't seem like there's any restriction. Not that I've noticed at least.

@DRL I wish I could count how many times the abyss watcher has killed me..
The first phase is soo hard, the knight that helps you is all but useless, he dies the second he spawns. I counted once and the helper knight died 18 times before I could beat the first phase

@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: You must be seriously under-leveled or something. I was able to use those two enemies to my advantage in a big way. On one attempt, I just avoided locking on and ran around the walls of the arena. I don't remember how much damage was being done, but I know those enemies were doing a ton of the work for me. I'd run up occasionally and get in a couple hits, then I'd run around the arena again to avoid everyone. I was able to get through the first phase without taking any damage a few times. However, I did die a lot during the second phase. You really have to learn his attacks and know when to dodge backward or strafe/dodge to the sides. Keep in mind that this is your first fight against a Lord of Cinder, so the battle is supposed to be more challenging than the ones before it.

Did you beat the Curse-Rotted Greatwood in the Undead Settlement yet? I can't remember whether I beat him before or after the Abyss Watchers (he's optional, I believe). That boss battle will give you an item that allows you to trade boss souls for special weapons. Other than the Fire Longsword that I used early in the game, I believe I relied on those weapons for the majority of my playthrough. Dancer's Enchanted Sword is pretty rad once reinforced. I recommend trading for that weapon once you have the appropriate boss soul.

@DRL
yea I killed the tree after many tries the other day
None of the boss souls I have are worth trading for weapons
Am I close to the Dancers Sword yet?

@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: Niiiiice!! I was on the edge of my seat at the end of the video, even though I knew you were going to beat him. I slayed a few Lords of Cinder with no Estus left and only a small slice of health. My hands were shaking uncontrollably afterward. I can only imagine how you felt after finally overcoming that challenge.

As far as the Enchanted Sword goes, well, you can fight that boss at just about any point in the game, but the fight will be INCREDIBLY difficult if you do it too soon. It's probably best to wait until you end up there naturally.

@A_BabyRed_Yoshi That's an amazing video, congratulations on beating that guy, I know its going to be very hard for me when I get there!

@A_BabyRed_Yoshi LOL!
I'm getting more into it with the more time I spend in game. I am finding the the embers seem to be a bit thin on the ground thus making coop harder. I think I've only found about 4 or 5 and got a couple off corpses or defeated enemies and at the rate I'm dying my cooping will be over in about 5 minutes!

@Utena-mobile Thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye out for those enemy types. I don't think I've been to Lothric yet (I'm at the 3rd area) or seen any red eyed knights (or just not noticed any!)

@crippyd: Whenever you bring new ashes to the Shrine Handmaid, the number of Embers in stock will increase. I think I had a collection of about 64 at the end of my playthrough, and that's even after using a handful. Honestly, I wasn't paying attention to how many of those I collected in the wild. I wasn't using online functionality prior to NG+, so it wasn't really on my mind.

@DRL Thanks for that info. I think I'll have to start looking around for the embers and ashes, I need to spend more time in single player to beef my guy up a bit level wise.

I breezed through the Cursed Greatwood and the Crystal Sage this morning in one life...Then got to the Cathedral and got jumped by around 8000 zombies. I had a sad.

@Red620Ti: The Cathedral is tough. In the cemetery areas, it's best to run around picking up items while avoiding most of the respawning zombies. It's pretty manageable this way. Once you start making your way into the cathedral, though, things get much more hectic. I had to focus on taking my time and moving very cautiously. I feel like that trek across the rooftops was one of the longest stretches in the game without a proper shortcut or bonfire. Good luck!

@crippyd: The original game had a mechanic that the longer you stayed alive, the better your farming chances were. The second, I'm pretty sure, had the same mechanic. I haven't played this one long enough to be sure whether it's there or not but I will do some testing and see. Basically as the number of enemies killed since last death increased, so did your find chance items on corpses, the drop rate increased. From what I remember in the first game there was a number in a circle that reset when you died. If you checked your drop rate chance in your stats, it went up alongside that number and dropped when it reset.

@sorethumbed Yeah, I remember that from the first, it was related to how much humanity you used (I think). I've just given some ashes to the old lady in Firelink and got 6 embers from her at an extortionate cost and found one out in the wild. I think this is the hardest of all 3 and I'm not sure I will finish it or at least not for a LONG time!
