Topic: You need to be connected to play this game

Sorry - complete newbie-type question, and I should know better.

I was playing the legendary edition of Mass Effect on game pass last weekend. It kept booting me out with the message 'you need to be connected' etc. My 52mbps connection hadn't dropped out, so I didn't quite understand. i guessed it was a fault at the other end.

My question is, was I getting this message because it was a Game Pass game (as opposed to owning it). If I had owned the game, would it keep booting me out?

It could influence whether I keep my Game Pass sub, or whether to buy Starfield outright, so any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

It was probably on the EA side with their servers in which case you would have gotten the same thing owning the game too. Did you try any other Gamepass games during that stretch of getting the message?

Thanks, BacklogBrad

My thoughts about the servers too, but wanted to check if it was a known Game Pass thing.

I didn't try any other GP games that day, but did have a few hours on Hogwarts (bought) with no issues.

Cheers

@Isca For future reference you can play Game Pass titles offline for 30 days before the licence expires, after that time just reconnect to Xbox Live to refresh any licence(s).

Honkai Star Rail UID: 714980866 (EU Server)

Thank you, Shigurui

Perhaps it was a problem with my connection with Xbox Live, then?

Very annoying with a game like Mass Effect, where you lose progress back to the last save point. Not a huge issue, just annoying, especially when I always play games permadeath!

Thanks again
