(Please feel free to move if already answered !)

So the question really is a simple one- do I upgrade my One X to a Series S, is it worth it or is it simply not necessary.

A few caveats, I've got an 8 month old, therefore time is at a premium and money is tight!

I do have a 4k TV, but I'm just confused as to whether it still represents an upgrade. I'm not bothered about disc-less. The quick resume fast swapping is far more appealing anyway!

@Beagle Yo, cool thanks so much for that really helped!

I've been watching YouTube videos today, I think it's underestimated how much of a big thing the loading times are. ( I should say this quietly but I can't really tell the difference between 4k and 1080p haha as long as it looks nice and runs smoothly I'm happy)

Game at the moment are doing the trade in deal, xbox one x and £49. Now, I know Game are the devil, and I know its probably not the best deal (though seems fine for me) but being able to say to the Mrs I'm picking up a new console for £49 is a far easier sell !!

I'd pretty much echo Beagle's comments.

XBO X and XSS are producing somewhat similar results visually. The XSS seems to favour framerate over resolution however. 1080p 60FPS is the norm here, rather than the 4k 30FPS seen on XBO X.

However the XSS will receive more attention from Microsoft and 3rd-party developers than the XBO X will receive now. So the tide will gradually shift in the XSS's favour.

You won't be gaming in 4k, but paying £49 to essentially extend the life of your console for hopefully a few years is a good deal.

XBO X is already losing out on games, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, likely because they don't make XBO X exclusive games, and the XBO isn't going to run that game well in a million years. And 1st party titles in 2022 are seemingly not supporting the XBO/XBO X anymore. Forza Motorsport (8) for example, is only due to release on the XSS/XSX/PC, not on XBO or XBO X.

The load times are also insane with the XSS/XSX. Changing a car in Forza Horizon 4 takes about 2 seconds of loading, booting the game itself is about a quarter of the time.

I love my Series S and there are some very impressive games on there for the level of power such as Metro Exodus (great game anyway) which has very good ray tracing, Watch Dogs Legion which again has impressive ray tracing and Ori and the Will of The Wisps which is even at 4k 60fps. The one difference that you won't get on the One X is ray tracing, which done well can look fantastic and will be even better when AMDs upscaling FSR comes out. The other benefit is the huge speed difference with the SSD storage and the fact that nearly every game is at 60fps
