Topic: Series X won't recognise my monitor as 4K

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I've recently bought a Series X and the resolution will not set to 4K. The Series X is saying I don't have a 4K monitor when I try to set it up. Obviously I know I do have one. Also my PS5 and PC recognise it automatically and are able to output in 4K@60hz.
I've spend hours going through the settings but cannot get it to work. I've gone through the troubleshoot for MS help. Initially I did manage to get the settings to 1080p with the 50Hz and 24 Hz selected and 4K and HDR on for movies only - however I am now unable to even select them with the Series X saying my monitor doesn't do 24 hz and movies can't do 4K even though an hour ago it said it did.
I'm currently on 1440p resolution on Series X. I'm using the cable supplied. Could it be my Series X is broken?
Anyone else having similar issues?
Btw monitor is Acer H277HK

I don't know about monitors, but my TV did the same - I had to go into the TV settings and change the setting of the HDMI output from auto to 4K. I don't really know if this would be the case with a monitor but may be worth a look

@PapaGlitch thanks for info. I tried all settings I could (not many available really). Like I mentioned PS5 and PC just ‘work’. I’ve gone through every possible series X setting and no joy.
This can only really be the Series X unable to work it out either by being broken or needing software update I think. Very disappointing as it’s not a good first impression compared to my PS5 especially as I have some issues with my controller also sometimes not working. I turn on the machine - it all pings on then switches itself off again. Perhaps I have a dud machine ☹️
Shame as my only other Xbox experience was a 360 lasting for 2 months and dying. Unfortunately I can’t really quit on it as just bought a year of GPU

I had the exact same experience, my PS5 worked fine but my Series X didn't even when connected to the same HDMI port. Previously my One S wouldn't recognise HDR on the same screen too, I think there's something awry with XBox's OS and certain screens.

I'm sure you've tried it, but have you Googling your monitor make and Series X to see if anything turns up? Or, if you have another 4K screen anywhere have you tried it on that, just to see if that rules out the XBox being defective

@PapaGlitch I did google it and someone else had similar issue for the exact monitor and many others have for different monitors. Mainly on Reddit. I tried some recommended fixes but just not working. I just find it difficult to believe it’s my monitor if everything else works on it - but the fact others have similar issues makes me think it’s Series X specific.
It’s an odd one as on one hand I’m really enjoying the machine and GPU but on the other it’s not fully what I paid for. Hate being down on a product especially when saying something negative is just seen as ‘fanboy’ but I spent £450 on this so would be nice if it actually worked as per the box.
The only think making this semi okay for me is knowing my PS5 works fine so 4K films will still work but it shouldn’t really need a PS5 to make the Series X acceptable.
I work in IT industry and not a complete dummy with tech but it’s amazing I have less issues with a self built PC than a Series X. As you can probably see I’m getting a little frustrated with it 😔

Hello, I have the same monitor as OP and I am still having the same issue, I’ve had this XSS for 4-5 months now and still no fix, it’s embarrassing compared to my PS5 which works perfectly like you.

Just checking in to see if you have found a fix or we still out on the water with this.

Hi @Amz sorry no fix I know of as yet. I actually just gave up and have accepted I can't have 4k on my series X. If I do get any further at any point I'll add to this topic.

Yeah, really annoying because FH5 is coming out this year and no fix as of yet. Oh well!
