@Balta666 ok sounds good. I get your criticisms. Lots of 3d platformers back in the 90s were pretty bland by today's standards. That's why I can't understand the flack mario 64 gets. It still holds up tremendously well, even by today's standards. The camera is finicky, sure, but the actual gameplay is one of the best out there, and it was pretty much the first to do it.

@NintendoByNature for sure about SM64. To me it was the first 100/100 game ever made and always fun to go back. I always miss when 3d platformers do not give you interesting objectives so you can go and explore.

@Balta666 absolutely. It's on an island of its own for that time period. There's no other 3d platformer of that time that can stand toe to toe, and that's including the crash games, banjo, etc. Crash is a lite 3d platformer but still.

I've bought this for my wife a few weeks ago when it was on sale and I've never played it before. I started it back when I bought it and I played a bit yesterday. It's a fun game with some frustrations and some of the levels are bloody hard, especially for a kids game. I've just started the third area so I'm not sure how far through the game I am. I got the trilogy pack so I'm playng the first game.

I have beaten the game with a 70% completion rate and I already said enough in my previous post.

P.s: I thought I remember that you would at some point be able to fly freely but maybe I was wrong (I only played parts of it at a friend's house)

@Bob_Salat haha, no worries . Let's make better choices together next time!! 😜

@Balta666 You're thinking of Spyro 2 and 3. In one you can only glade except for the bouns levels.

@NintendoByNature That's pretty much the first Spyro game. Find gems rescue dragons. The second and third have more game play variety.

@Tasuki oh okay! I thought I have only played the first but maybe that was not the case after all.

@nomither6 I've played it on original hardware and the 3D collection for switch only. I'd probably say playing with an actual N64 controller makes it all the better but a modern controller is fine too.

NintendoByNature

Balta666

@nomither6 like @NintendoByNature mentioned the gameplay is better suited to the N64 controller (specially the analogue 8 direction only inputs) but the remaster on switch (as long as you have it already) is a good remaster

Balta666

@Balta666 @NintendoByNature ok , looks like buying a wireless n64 controller & switch version should do it then. i have a n64 lying around but i dont even wanna attempt to find the cords for it and look up the price for the original mario 64 cartridge 😬

nomither6

wait, i just looked up the price for the 3d superstar collection & that’s expensive too!!

nomither6

NintendoByNature

@nomither6 maybe sub to the expansion pack? I dont sub to it because I already own all the worthwhile games on it.

NintendoByNature

Balta666

@nomither6 that is why I said the remaster only if you have it already as the idiotic decision of nintendo to stop selling it even digitally has obviously raised the price of it in the long run...

Balta666

nomither6

@NintendoByNature ahh , nice! i don’t use my switch much , but i should’ve known they had some sort of subscription service. thanks!

nomither6

nomither6

@Balta666 eh, i’m kinda over it now considering that i physically have mario galaxy and the ROM for sunshine. all that’s really missing is SM64, but im willing to pay $50 for a year sub & catalog of n64 games and switch online

@Bob_Salat well i looked on CDkeys, and theyre as low as $7, but theyre all out of stock

I loved playing through the spyro trilogy. The controls are perfect and the driver is collecting everything. Which I did. Getting to 75% is the easy part, the last 25% is the challenge.

I quite like the humour and character designs. The secrets and uncovering them for the 100% completion is rewarding.

Collectaphon games are not for everyone. But outside of a couple of levels, it's pretty straightforward in a similar way to the original crackdown. Which also got a lot of hate for it's simplicity. Contrarily, it's a bonus for me.

The comparison to Mario 64 is fair due to the times they released. But they offer differing takes on the genre. Mario is significantly tougher creating a wider challenge, which for some is more rewarding. These days, I just don't have the willpower to overcome failing an easy jump multiple times due to a bad camera angle or geometry. In this regard spyro gets it's mostly right, as the open design has less opportunity to gazump your progress.
