@NintendoByNature I've been busy playing Little Hope over at Push Square Game Club, but I'm done with the game now so I'll be hopefully starting up The Evil Within 2 tonight.
@NintendoByNature I played the first two chapters earlier & am liking it more than I thought I would to be honest. It's clearly borrowing loads of ideas from other places & as a concept it doesn't appear to offer anything new so far, but has atmosphere & a few shocks. I'd like to see a bit more. So I'd give it a tentative "ok" up to now.
@LtSarge good stuff! @XxHyperspudxX fully agree. So far it's ok to good. The setting is really where it's at in this game. The enemies are give or take.
So I played it for a few hours last night. The first thing I have to mention is that the game feels a lot like The Last of Us in terms of mechanics and gameplay. It has that weighty feel to it when you move around, you can stealth kill enemies from behind with a knife, you can craft items and upgrade weapons and so on. It's a very positive thing because I absolutely loved TLOU Part 2 when I played it earlier this year.
The second thing is that the game has quite a few scares already and the reason why I mention this is because I've never felt that the Resident Evil series (comparing TEW to it since both were created by the same guy) was that scary. Well, except for Resident Evil 7 which in my opinion is the scariest game in the series that I've played so far.
But yeah, very positive impressions of the game so far. I'm looking forward to seeing how open it's going to get from here on out.
@LtSarge never played last of us. But it's definitely more cerebral which always freaks me out. Never know what's real or fake! I've definitely been more of a stalker and quietly taking out enemies.
I'm onto chapter 7 I believe. I'm really enjoying it now. Scavenging, silently killing enemies, all of it. The mind games are next level with the set pieces too.
@Balta666 yea its going really smoothly. While it's enemies are pretty terrifying, it reminds me alot of RE4. It's more action oriented, and you feel more powerful than you do in the earlier RE games. Plus, there's loot at every corner to upgrade your weapons, increase the capacity, and there's a skill tree which is always great to upgrade. I'm on chapter 14 and I'm cruising. Based on what I've ready, ch 14-17 should only take a handful of hours so I could potentially close it out tonight or tomorrow depending on if I game or not.
And I finished. Overall really solid experience that feels like a spin-off RE game with more of an actual story than most RE games. Most of them don't really have much purpose in comparison if I'm being honest.
It was light on the puzzles, heavy on the action and exploration, and gory/creepy as all get out. Boss fights were always top notch, locations were detailed and vast, and I always wanted to see what was around the corner.
Upgrading gear, skills, and weapons never got old either. Loved heading back to your office to take a quick breather and load up. You'll need it at times, that's for sure.
My only gripe is how quickly you could be overwhelmed and then enemies are literally on top of you. From there, you can't see much of anything and you aren't the most agile. Other than that, rock solid survival horror game.
Now I kind of want to go back and try the first game again. Its a breath of fresh air if you've played all the RE games, it's worth checking out.
Well Duuudes, it is time for the most hyped game of 2004!! Yes, it is indeed Halo 2 in the house...
