@Royalblues actually there are four save files, you can start a new game and some collectibles like audio logs and skulls will carry over from your previous files. Oddly, some collectibles you only unlock once, like the cabinets, do not carry over.

I've been plugging away at Halo Infinite and it's better than I expected it to be. I just got off killing the three AA guns on that isolated island.

I love all the hero moments in the cut scenes. The sidekick is great too. It's a very nice story with nice characters so far. The baddies ham it up a little bit though!

I'm always a bit hot and cold on the Halo series as a whole. It's just a mixed bag for me. There are great moments but then there's also the archives style repitition. I think I am enjoying going for collectibles in this one. I like grapnel gunning my way up the highest cliffs.

Decent game so far, anyway.

See ya!

@ralphdibny I'm just about to start this section. I've only played the original Halo before this one and that was a few years ago in the Master Chief Collection, so long after original release. I'm loving it. Some of the story is beyond me since I don't have the knowledge of the old games. But I'm still enjoying the cutscenes as well as the setpiece action sequences between them. It's definitely the most fun I've had playing a FPS.

This is also the first time I've delved into the world of online multiplayer for this type of game and it's a blast.

Mayo for Sam. Year TBC.

@blockfight nice one, glad you are enjoying it.

I have played all the FPS Halo games but for the life of me, I just can't remember the ending to Halo 5: Guardians 😅. Seems like something really bad happened at the end of that game considering the state of affairs at the start of Halo Infinite! I have no recollection of it whatsoever lol

I'm on my 4th play through of this and I'm going for the LASO acheivement, which, as you would expect with a Legandary play, is bloody difficult. Currently I'm trying to work my way to the first boss fight to be able to get on to the surface of the ring. Having all the sculls on is making it that much more of a challenge as there's no HUD and to get checkpoints you need to have full health and to get that you need to melee the bad guys! Such fun!
Great game though and an enjoyable entry in the series. I'm looking forward to where they go from here.

I'm still on my first playthrough on Legendary - collect and do 'everything' play through. Whilst its not as hard as the LASO (although don't need to do 'everything'), it can still be brutal at times. I think I'm getting close to the 'end' as I am about to tackle the final part having rescued every squad, destroyed every propaganda tower, collected every spartan core/mjolnir armour etc with just a few outstanding Skulls, Audio logs etc...

I've enjoyed every minute so far....

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

I managed to reach the surface of the ring over the weekend and I've nabbed the secret Scorpion gun so that will make things a whole lot easier going forward. To be honest, the first boss was loads easier than the build up to getting to him. I think I only died about 8-10 times on it. Clearing out the base and then the first FOB was a breeze, so I'm hopefull that the rest will be fairly easy going now.
As for full completion, I've got my first file sitting at 97 or 98%, so I'll got back to that to mop up the Spartan logs and the UNSC ones. I already have all the Banished logs, armour and upgrades.

@JohannVanDerSmut That was pretty much my take too. Seems polarising some people likes the character arcs. Wasn’t a fan of the way they changed chief either but each to their own.

Agree the most important thing, the moment to moment gunplay, was brilliant. But I wasn’t a fan of the far cry style outposts instead of carefully curated set pieces. So few epic, memorable moments compared to previous Halo’s.

I'm on the Silent Auditorium and feel like I've just wasted an hour of time trying to get the 'last' skull, the last 'item' having collected EVERYTHING else on my Legendary play though, only to get to the door, despite not firing a 'shot' where the Sentinels are (dying countless times) to find it 'locked'.

So now I have to 'restart' the whole mission...

I'm still on the LASO playthrough and it is significantly more difficult than I thought it was going to be, although I am making headway. I'm currently on the invisible elite boss so not too far from the end of the game. He is giving me a bit of a headache, I can get a few hits on him but he just shrugs it off and kills me, even with the scorpion gun, it just doesn't seem to scrape him.

Well I finally got the last Skull - now trying to beat the Harbinger...

I really don't think I'll bother with a LASO run LOL

@BAMozzy Impressive regardless! well done.

I've done solo legendary on every Halo game until Infinite, but some of those battles were just BS even on Heroic so it was a hard pass.

LASO would be self-flagellation.

themightyant

BAMozzy

@themightyant Thanks and yes, some of the battles are just BS especially on Legendary. The amount of times you are 'instantly' melted despite having fully upgraded and full shields is ridiculous. I don't normally like 'beating' myself up over and over and over again to succeed, but up until this 'last' section, the majority hasn't been that bad. So much of the open world enemies are not too bad to get through on Legendary any easier and its hardly a challenge.

Shielded enemies, bosses and Hunters are the worst but in the open world, a crew with the right weapons or the right 'vehicle' (Scorpions mess Hunters up LOL) make things easier than some 'small' arena with 'just' you and a boss that can kill in one hit, multiple different 'phases' to get through etc is tough - just keep hoping to 'progress' enough each time to trigger a checkpoint until you eventually win.

@BAMozzy 100% and some good tips. Hunters in tight spaces were especially bad and I had to cheese a few bosses and get some generous checkpoints even on Heroic, while avoiding the not so favourable ones. On a couple of occasions I was stuck reloading in an almost infinite loop of dying after a few seconds until I could figure out the one move that would prevent me dying it was almost like a game of chess or Live, Die, Repeat. lol. I'm told it will revert to a previous checkpoint eventually but I don't think I ever had that happen.

Frankly I see it as bad game design, it's just not well balanced or fair. That last boss room was ridiculous and left a bitter taste. I've watched a few legendary playthroughs but still haven't seen anyone get through on skill alone, there's still an element of cheesing the mechanics.

But it's also age. I think my tolerance for this sort of thing is much lower now. When I was young, with time on my hands and not enough money to buy more games, I would beat these all Solo on Legendary and attempt LASO.

Now I don't feel I have anything to prove and I just don't get that same sense of accomplishment I used to, it's mostly frustration instead. And with less time to play games and more games to play i'd rather play another in my backlog or another on Game Pass rather than subject myself to that. But we're all different.

So last night I had another crack at the invisible elite and changed up my tactics and I beat him. Not sure if there was a bit of luck involved or the energy sword being better than the scorpion gun, but that sucker went down! Also managed to one shot the next boss by some flukey magic. Scorpion straight to the face and it was good night from him!
Working my way to the final showdown and the in game time counter is showing about 9 1/2 hours play.
For all the other difficulty levels I had no trouble at all. Easy was that you could basically run throught most levels and not even bother about getting hit, normal seemed significantly more challenging and then the step up to heroic was barely noticable from normal and again was a real quick run. I certainly spent the most time on the normal run as I was trying to find all the collectables and I'm going to have to do another one as I'm sure I've missed some level collectables.
Really enjoying the game though and even though this LASO has thrown up some challenging moments and a couple of frustrations, its the first time I've attempted it and I'm doing OK.

@themightyant some checkpoints just don't 'help' at all - I had one loop in my entire playthrough that was particularly bad with a couple of sniper shots just about to hit me 'every' time I spawned in after a death. Even when I some how managed to get out with a huge chunk of health gone, I'd get hit by 'grunt' and die so have the same issue again. That one did end up rolling back to the previous...

I 'didn't' cheese the end boss at all but I died 'countless' times on stage 2 and 3 in particular. Fortunately, I managed to get a checkpoint with just the last Banished enemy in stage 3 which really helped me get over the Finish line-still took me a good 'few' attempts to get the last bit of shield and health down from the Harbinger, but at least now I have beaten the 'entire' campaign, collected 'everything' on my one and only playthrough on Legendary. I may have some fun with some 'skulls' active - bandana sounds 'fun' LOL - but otherwise I have finished with Halo Infinite for now.

I don't like constantly having to 'repeat' trying a section over and over and over again - but I found most of the game relatively comfortable - of course sometimes I'd still end up dying a few times, some quite 'cheap' deaths too - but overall, It was about 'right' for me and the Legendary ending I believe had something more -like beating Batman: Arkham Knight with 100% completion.

I never play anything I don't want to, and that includes games with 'insane' difficulty settings and certainly won't be 'forced' to play a difficulty setting or style of play to complete all achievements so I rarely ever do speed runs either...

@crippyd Well done. Sounds like you've made significant progress. Impressive.

@BAMozzy Seems you had a much better time of it. I had to abuse the stupidity of the AI with the last Banished with the gravity hammer, was pulling what remains of my hair out before that. Kill everyone else, get a checkpoint and then (1) snipe him while letting him get close then jump off the edge, let him follow and grapple back up, snipe him until he gets close... back to step 1. Not a fan of bullet sponges. Took ages, one error and start again.

I agree most of the game was comfortable, that was part of my issue with it. Most of the game was relatively easy but then there were completely unbalanced difficulty spikes. To be clear i'm not adverse to difficult games, I've 100%ed most Souls for example, but it has to feel fair and balanced. In those games when you die it's basically always your fault and you learn how to improve. With Halo I felt when you died it was often down to luck and mostly all I learned was how to manipulate the AI rather than actually improving. In short the learning curve didn't feel quite right. It was a shame as I enjoyed a lot of the game.

It was the same issue that Kena: Bridge of Spirits did. A relatively easy game with unbalanced difficulty spikes and unfair bosses that killed you in 1 or 2 hits. Another game I really enjoyed but decided not to go back and replay on hardest.

BAMozzy

@themightyant That last guy with the Gravity hammer wasn't the issue for me - I just used the platform with the hardlight ammo crate and that hardlight laser gun to melt him. Every time he came up to the platform, I'd jump down to the floor and then zipline back up as soon as jumped down. That laser thing melted him quickly - it was the Harbinger's bolts that kept getting me but I got her under one of the ramps, slammed down the Gravity hammer a few times and beat her but the guy with the Gravity hammer didn't get me too often, it was the rest of his 'crew' snipers, cloaked enemies etc but once I got that last checkpoint, with just the Gravity Hammer dude, he didn't get close to me.

Those 'laser' blast weapons melt enemies quickly but its still not easy - anyway, glad I persevered in the end.

Well, after last night I've got 3 achievements to 100% the campaign, 2x collectables and killing the thrown grunt.
I clocked up about 11 1/2 game hours completing LASO which included capturing a few FOBs and dying a lot. My playstyle didn't really differ from my other runs so I was always going straight in for the fight and not hanging back which is probably why I died so much. An entertaining game and I'll be happy when I've got the other 3 achievments.
