Banjo-

I'm missing half of the dialogues in Guardians of the Galaxy. I'm just wondering, if I'm playing on a TV with Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos (LG C9 and no audio/video receiver connected) and I want to use Dolby Vision, what should I select in Xbox Series X settings, Dolby Atmos for home theatre (HDMI only) because it's Dolby Atmos or Stereo Uncompressed because the TV has two speakers as far as I know? Or any other?

Usually, dolby atmos work best with the home theatres that have the minimum required channels available (and at least 2 vertical facing ones). Some tvs and soundbars only provide virtual surround or atmos that just act as simulated spatial sounds. Perhaps your tv is missing the channels that handle the voices of characters that are in certain positions, hence the issue. Just to verify, try putting the sound settings in stereo in the parts where the dialog "banishes". You can also use a headset and turn on dolby atmos for headphones to determine if the problem is also there.

Thanks for the reply. I found an option on Series X, audio setup, that lets you test the different setups. The one that sounds best on the LG C9 is actually Dolby Atmos for home theatre (HDMI only) and all of the virtual speakers sound correctly, great considering that they are virtual. It's good to know but then why half of the dialogues in Guardians of the Galaxy banish? I wonder if it's the game. I will try with headphones next time since I have Dolby Atmos for Headphones.

@Banjo- I'm not sure if it's the same on the C9 but the C1 has loads of different audio options like Cinema, Clear Voice Pro, Sport, Music, Game Optimiser etc. Might be worth trying out some of those if you have them because I've found they make loads of difference to whether or not I can actually hear the dialogue over other sounds.

In a separate menu somewhere, there is also an option for AI Sound Optimiser, which sounds like trash to me so I turned it off but yeah, that's somewhere in my menus too

@ralphdibny The AI Sound is LG's alternative to Dolby Atmos but Dolby Atmos is better. Because both the C9 and Series X support Dolby Atmos and I get the Dolby Atmos tag on the TV when I launch the game, I was expecting everything to work well. It's not that the sounds and music don't let me hear the dialogues but that the voices disappear, not gradually but suddenly, when the characters are a bit far from me.

@Banjo- that sounds like a technical thing to me. I'd immediately think that something in your chain of devices is outputting audio channels that don't exist in your home set up.

Having said that, those audio profiles I mentioned before actually have such a noticeable effect on sound that I thought I'd just mention them anyway as they are easy to check and disregard if they make no difference.

Had no idea that was the intention of AI sound though! It just sounds awful on my tele. It's like everything is super loud but the speakers don't have the range to play that many different sounds at the same volume so it comes out super tinny. Not exactly tinny but it sounds a bit like opening a window in a busy noisy area.

I just leave it turned off and if something sounds notably bad (like a blu ray or something), I will normally just cycle through the available options until I find something that sounds good enough

@ralphdibny I tested through the audio setup on Series X and the virtual speakers produced by Series X Dolby Atmos sound fine on the TV that also supports Dolby Atmos. I don't have any special setup as I said, it's just the TV and Series X right now. That's why I suspected it might be the game. I don't have this issue with other games so I will try with Dolby Atmos for Headphones and see if it's the same or not.

@Banjo- ok cool, best of luck with it. I'm afraid that's probably the limit of what I can suggest anyway. I've only just got the series X and the C1 a few months before so I'm still kinda just learning all this new technology πŸ˜…

Banjo-

@ralphdibny Thanks for your replies. I'll try what you say as well but that means no Dolby Atmos, which both the console and the TV support.

@Banjo- not sure if those profiles affect Dolby Atmos. Unless Atmos supercedes them in some way. Maybe I just don't have Atmos turned on, I will have to have a look when I get a chance. The only icon I see top right on my TV is HDR when it's applicable

See ya!

Banjo-

@ralphdibny If you see the HDR icon then it's HDR10 and not Dolby Vision. If you turn Dolby Vision on in your LG C1 and your console settings, you will see the Dolby Vision icon when you launch a game so nope, you're not taking advantage of Dolby Vision, which is significantly better than HDR10/+.

@Banjo- ahh cool, cheers for the heads up, I'll have to change that setting. I think Dolby vision pops up when I watch Disney plus but I only get HDR when I play games. I'll look into it a bit more at some point

See ya!

Banjo-

@ralphdibny Just go to the Xbox display settings and turn Dolby Vision on and your TV will automatically detect it as it detects it when you watch Disney Plus. Piece of cake.

@Savage_Joe @ralphdibny In the game's audio settings, there is "advanced audio settings". I selected "television" in there and Dolby Atmos is working fine this far πŸ‘.

@Banjo- it happened to me in many games ( excuse my english , im Spanish ) ive you are using only the speakers of the tv ,leave the options of the Series X in uncompressed stereo and then change the tv audio from game mode ( the audio, no the image ) to cinema mode and you will hear it much better.........you can leave the Dolby atmos on in the tv...............i have a Lg NANO 90 , the menu is allmost the same than your C9 or a CX, only difference is the panel, mine is LED

@Markibz Thank you for posting. These are unnecessary problems that could be solved with audio automisation between consoles and TVs that I hope is established soon. I will try your tips, too.

‘Gracias! 😊
