Talking Point: This Classic Activision Racer Came To Xbox 15 Years Ago, And We Sorely Miss It

A few of us here at PX HQ are massive arcade racing fans - in fact, pretty much all of us like belting around fictional tracks and digital courses at silly speeds for the heck of it. Today, then, we're here to commemorate 15 years of one of our absolute favourites of the genre; an Xbox classic. Activision's 360 racer Blur is now a decade and a half old, and we sorely miss it to this day.

Blur still exists of course - if you can grab a physical copy and be bothered to play it on native 360 hardware. However, just as we talked about last summer, this Activision racer still isn't backwards compatible all these years later - in fact, it's not even available digitally due to expired licenses. We miss it because, to be honest, it'd just be so much easier and smoother to boot this thing up on modern Xbox consoles rather than have to hook up a 360 to get stuck in.

There's also the fact that Xbox's back compat program often brings performance enhancements, which Blur could do with in this day and age. The game still plays pretty well - but it's a 30FPS effort with somewhat blurry visuals, and we'd love to see all of that bumped and spruced up to make it easier to palette here in 2025. Blur at 4K and 60FPS? We need it!

Blur has some other interesting links to Xbox history, too. The development team behind it — Bizarre Creations — worked directly with Microsoft for years, putting together the Project Gotham Racing series. To be honest, Blur aside, PGR is probably the arcade racer we most want to see revived in the modern era. Having said that, more Blur and/or PGR in any fashion would go down a treat, Xbox.

Regardless of what lies ahead for games like Blur and PGR (probably not a lot, unfortunately), we'd still like to wish the former a very happy 15 years on the market. This classic Activision racer made its Xbox 360 debut on May 25th, 2010 in North America - and it still lives rent free in our heads more than a decade later.

Do you have fond memories of Blur, or in fact, any other arcade racers from this era? Talk to us about it all down below.
