Talking Point: As Xbox Celebrates 25 Years, What's Your First Ever Xbox Memory?

2026 promises to be a year of celebration for Xbox, at least in terms of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox console, which first released all the way back on November 15th of 2001.

With that in mind, we're keen to know about your very first ever Xbox memory! We're assuming some Xbox members will go all the way back to that 2001 release date, and maybe even earlier to when The Rock and Bill Gates first unveiled the original Xbox console at CES 2001.

In fact, the anniversary of the OG Xbox's unveiling literally just passed a few days ago:

Of course, there's every chance you weren't there on day one either. I personally didn't get into the Xbox ecosystem until the Xbox 360 days, while others might have waited until the Xbox One or Series X|S eras to join the party.

My first ever Xbox memory goes back to the PAL release of the original Xbox in 2002 though, and an excited friend who picked one up at launch and subsequently sold me on how great it was, even despite the bulky Duke controller!

So, let's hear it! We published a story like this in 2021 and you shared some great stories with us, but it's time for a refresh five years later — we're excited to hear about your first Xbox memories in the comments down below.

There's also a poll where you can tell us the first Xbox console you ever owned!
