Xbox Confirms Exactly How The 360 Store Closure Will Affect Players This July

How's about a 50% off the store sale to close out the only truly glorious generation of Xbox?

Disgraceful this shutdown will make many games lost for good all while they talk about game preservation. They should just port everything to the current store it would make sense then.

They won't even do a decent sale so people are forced to pay full price.

@FraserG It's a shame if they really can't port anything to the current store it's easy on PC and many old games still available on Steam etc.

I thought on Xbox they could just give notice and then just port.

Launch debacle aside Xbox One was really great. You just had to have enough of a brain to turn off the mainstream gaming media and any other Sony worshippers and objectively look at what each company offers.

I will gladly take Forza Horizon, GoW, and MCC.over a company that churns out woke propaganda like Sony

@FraserG It's not as simple as cutting prices on everything to the current store - this is why we only have a certain number of sales. Rights and wishes of publishers and licensing agreements are holding many titles back.

I agree that ports would be nice though!

@Kooky_Geezer Microsoft isn't responsible for the 'majority' of games on their 360 Store. The Majority are owned by other Publishers/Developers and its up to them to 'preserve' games if they had any desire to.

Games on the N64 for example aren't 'preserved' just because they were released Physically and didn't have a Digital store. The 'games' had limited numbers and no longer available to buy, neither is the Hardware. You are left with no option but to search for 'used' and hope they still work.

Just like the N64, if you 'bought' games, you can still play and/or redownload. You can still search used markets for Physical copies of games on disc too.

All MS can 'preserve' and bring forward to modern Hardware via BC is their OWN games as they 'own' the Licences, IP's, Publishing Rights etc. They can't 'preserve' Treyarchs Spider-Man for example and make that available to play on Series S/X.

The 360 is 'obsolete' as are ALL the games released for it - they are no longer being 'made'. You can't go and buy Halo 3 or Gears of War 'new' on Disc, can't go and buy a new 360. If you want to 'preserve' your 360 experience, you need to keep your 360 Hardware and rely on 'used/retro' game stores to try and find games...

Doesn't help that Xbox Live has been broken on the 360 for over a month now with no way of logging in, even backwards compatible you can't log into Live with your 360 games through One or Series consoles either, can't buy anything, can't update achievements

Was always going to happen not a surprise what can you do makes sense besides from what I'm hearing everyone just wants physical games or is that wrong this hour?

I found read or heard anything regarding the servers closing, so assuming we’ll still be able to play 360 games online

@Kooky_Geezer I might also add to what others are saying is that Microsoft also started a new game preservation team (which I am sure you already know) so it is possible that they can work to get the rights to some 360 titles that are about to be lost or obsolete and making them backwards compatible on newer hardware, thus saving them.

Still doesn’t make the store closing happy and I do agree that the decision is disappointing, but it might make everyone feel better knowing Microsoft are likely going to resume making titles backwards compatible after they halted it a few years ago.

I appreciate stuff like Blue Dragon being backwards compatible but would have loved other games like Ninety Nine Nights being playable on current gen systems. I know the argument that physical discs are an option but there's a lot of stuff that needs updates to function unlike say ps2 games and earlier. Also physical doesn't mean much to me, I went to trade in a bunch of 360 games last year and was told they wouldn't accept them as they all had disc rot, something I didn't even know existed and I kept those games in good condition.

I'm hoping Disney starts porting their old games. It's a good sign when stuff like ps1 Star Wars Phantom Menace shows up even though it's not the best game. It would be nice to see some of xbox stuff like Punisher, Xmen Legends, Nightmare before Christmas, Obiwan, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, the list could go on and on.

People asking for a sale, there was literally a buy one get one free on old games. It might still be up. It's not MS fault y'all decided not to look at the store where it was advertised.

@Bluerangervegeta Xbox One made it clear the absolute necessity of backwards compatibility. For that alone, it will always be special. But on its own. With exclusives only, it's a middling content generation. Even if I still play Halo Wars 2, Sea of Thieves and Forza 3 (the best). Honestly, 9th gen Xbox isn't doing much better. But then I consider 9th gen the worst generation, in its current state.

that was a terrible sale. Most of those games are 75% off on common sales.
The selection of that sale is a joke.
I'm referring specifically to the 360 shop not the BC store. There is still a significant amount of non-BC content on the 360 shop.

@Xbox_Dashboard The sale had a great selection, just cause you didnt want any of em doesnt make em bad. It just seems you are a little butthurt over a 20 year old online store being closed down. If you didnt get what you wanted in that 20 year frame, then you were never gonna play those games to begin with.

@CERBERUS40000 I have no problems with Xbox Live on my Xbox 360 or playing an Xbox 360 game on my Series X and connecting to Xbox Live that way. Maybe you are having some technical issues.

I went on the Xbox 360 store just to see what non B/C free games that I wanted and I finally got Doritos Crash Course. I'm not 100% sure but that one may actually be B/C. Anyways, I got it after all of this time. I still need to see what I'm gonna buy, other than Call of Duty Classic. I've been holding out for years just to see if that one will ever go on sale and it never has to my knowledge. I'm going to wait until July 23rd out of principle.

I along with many other people would absolutely love them to do more backwards compatible games so it’s not such a big deal with the Xbox 360 store closing because you would still be able to purchase and play those games on Xbox One and Xbox Series. You’d have thought they would have done a sale before the store shuts down also?

@BigBobEnerG That's pretty aggressive. I have most of those titles already. My only issue is with the very limited selection and the marketing of Buy1-Get1 when most of those titles go for 5$ frequently. Still I would like an Xbox 360 shop sale. The BC titles are nice n all.

If I can’t run it on my series x, I don’t want it anyway… My 360 is a relic. Not that I don’t wish everything old was backward compatible and playable on series.

Microsoft has no power over third party publisher,..lost of games have licenses for specific consoles, like ps3/xbox30, Microsoft had to do a lot of legal work to make third party game backwards compatible staring during the xbox one era,I would love to play need for speed most wanted 2005 on my xbox series x , but car manufacturers, music holders and EA won't allow it , all of them have to approve it, just to make backwards compatible.

Well folks, that’s why emulation is the saviour of gaming- not backward compatibility (which will always be limited). My ROG Ally is already letting me play the likes of Red Dead Redemption, Forza Horizon 2 and Fight Night Round 4 very well. I have a long list of games still to play from the 360 era and I will definitely be doing just that even when that store closes.

I assume one day it will not be possible to download anything that isn't playable on the current generation of consoles so to me getting a rgh modded 360 console whilst currently having a series s offline with retail emulation is a great idea for the future, all that would be needed is a PS5 and a up to date PC then people would be set on all fronts, old and new.

@Gollum I stack up on consoles when they are cheap or need minor repairs, refurbish them and then archive them for the future. I have 6 OG Xbox ver. 1.1, 8 Xbox 360 (5 are S, 3 are E). Then I went and got 2 more Series X Diablo bundles when they were $349.

When they took the wii store offline they did a sale not ignoring that all the games were owned by Nintendo but the sale was amazing drop 200 Dollar's would probably do the same for Xbox as well if they drop Price massively like the wii did but not going to hold my breath when I first heard of the shut down I all so went out started buy 360 and games 360 for spare parts down the road controllers and power supplies are scarce though lol

A real shame. Xbox 360 was the best console of the best generation so far. If MS sold it, I’d buy a modern 360 that allowed me to flip between the different dashboards and play my full 360 digital library. One can dream.

@CERBERUS40000 Sounds like you have some issues that needs a dressing. I'm able to log into 360 services without issue.

@Kooky_Geezer 100% would love to see the old wwe games on backwards compatibility but at least they've done more to preserve games than their competitors.

My attitude was with the launch of the Series Xbox the x360 was completely dead. The x360 console was a rocking console when it was released, despite it's limitations. Unfortunately games got pulled from the x360 store and the final update with the metro design was terrible. I see lots of old x360 and original x1 consoles at my local game store, I don't think many people want them anymore. They even have lots of x360 games for sale, I think they largely stopped buy anymore because they don't sell.

@gollumb82 how does achievements work? i presume its just a straight up emulation of the game itself right? the most ive emulated were gamecube and wii games so i wouldnt know

I can’t say for sure (I haven’t unlocked any yet) but I saw settings for achievements in Retrobat (which I use) and Emudeck. I remember reading about achievements unlocking properly when using Emudeck so I guess they work as intended.

There is a good reason why the ps3 store is still available but that the x360 store will be shut down. For the ps3 Sony had an older version which was not web enabled then they later upgraded to a web enabled version. It seems that Sony was able to roll back the store on the vita and ps3 to there older versions. For the x360 the interface was changed multiple times but I believe much of the core functionality remained the same. MS did patch some kind of glitch which allowed demo arcade games to be unlocked without paying, likely there were more problems. I personally feel that the Kinect/Metro designs killed off the x360, at least in my opinion.

@FraserG they should've just made everything they possibly could backwards compatible, then if anyone who owns the rights had issue with it, request the game be removed from being BC.

With a game like Dust: An Elysian Tale, the idea they couldn't do it, something to do with the being made using XNA, seems odd considering they've been able to port it to the PlayStation & Switch etc.
