Yesterday, we shared a story about how we thought Mafia 2: Definitive Edition and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition could be getting 60FPS upgrades in the near future, and in the case of Mafia 3 at least, that's ended up being true.

The upgrade is out right now for digital owners of Mafia 3, although it's advised that you may need to search for the XBOX Series X|S version manually on the Xbox Store in order to add it to your library.

Keep in mind that Mafia 3 also supports the Xbox Disc to Digital program, so if you claim the digital license by inserting the disc into your console, you should also be eligible for this new version (at least in theory!).

Here's a look at the "highlights" of this new release:

  1. Increased framerate during gameplay: Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PlayStation®5 and XBOX Series X|S supports 60 FPS gameplay. Please note that many of the cinematics in Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PlayStation®5 and XBOX Series X|S are rendered in real time, and as such will play at 60 FPS just like the gameplay. Some cinematics, however, are pre-rendered movies that will play at 30 FPS.
  2. Improvements to Trophy and Achievement tracking: Addressed reported issues with progress towards Trophies and Achievements to ensure that your accomplishments are accurately tracked.
  3. Improved story mission progression: Addressed several reported instances where players could become stuck or unable to progress during specific checkpoints, cutscenes, and objectives across the campaign and DLC content.
  4. Improved visual consistency across the game world: Addressed reported issues with lighting, texture rendering, and vegetation streaming that could cause unintended visual artifacts in select areas.

There's been no word yet on whether Mafia 2 will be getting the same treatment in the near future as well, but it seems like they're just focusing on Mafia 3 to celebrate the game's tenth anniversary for the time being.

We'll leave you with a look at the exact store page you'll need to find on the Xbox Store to install this new version of Mafia 3, along with the rest of the patch notes for this console upgrade specifically.

How to find Mafia 3 for XBOX Series X|S - Press "Y" on the Xbox dashboard, type "Mafia iii" into the search bar, select "Mafia iii Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S", scroll right to "Show in Store" and press A, press A on "Mafia iii Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S", and you should see the screen below and be prompted to install the game if you're eligible.

(It may not be this difficult - this is just a last resort if you're struggling to locate it!)
