It's now been five years since the Xbox FPS Boost program officially came to an end in 2021, serving as a way to improve the frame rates of loads of old Xbox games from the past on Series X and Series S.

We've been assuming it wouldn't make any kind of official comeback, but when asked about this yesterday on social media, Xbox's VP of next-generation Jason Ronald actually responded to the question and provided a cryptic tease.

While he didn't spell out that the FPS Boost feature will definitely return, he did confirm that the team is "cooking on a number of things" right now, and that we'll hear more about them before the end of 2026.

We've obviously only got three months left in the year now, so any kind of new feature announcements will likely align with the Xbox 25th anniversary in mid-November, or perhaps they'll just be pushed out as part of various Insider updates like we've seen with Disc to Digital and Mythic achievements in recent weeks.

In any case, it sounds like there's at least some kind of work going on in the background to improve how games perform on our Xbox devices, but we'll have to wait just a little bit longer to see what Ronald is actually referring to here.

Whatever happens, it's great to know that the new Xbox features aren't finished entirely for 2026 yet!
