Loss of save data is one of the worst things that can happen in gaming, and it's an issue that has cropped up now and again for some Xbox users over the years. Forza Horizon 6 is just one of the more recent titles to suffer corrupted or lost saves.
It's pretty horrid stuff, relying on synchronised local and cloud saves, and hearing reports of 20-30 hours of progress vanishing after receiving a dreaded save data warning. However, there appears to be more light at the end of the tunnel, with Xbox stated to be working on ways to make save errors "less cryptic and more actionable".
We take this as a really positive response from Eden Marie, Xbox's Engineering Lead, as it points towards better options for players when save errors pop up in the future.
As it stands, when users encounter the save data warning above, or other similar issues affecting their precious data, Xbox hasn't really provided enough information or clear solutions to help players deal with these problems. Things have improved over the past couple of years with the addition of game save indicators and insights into the source of game syncs, but there's definitely still work to be done in this area.
To Xbox's credit, recent efforts indicate the team is still hard at work addressing these issues. Multiple Xbox system updates in recent weeks have tackled some of the problems affecting Forza Horizon 6 players, and it's reassuring to see that commitment echoed in Eden's response on X.
