When we covered the State of Play event earlier this week, one of the notable absentees from an Xbox perspective was No Rest For The Wicked, which is the new game from Moon Studios (known for the amazing Ori titles).
Apparently, the reason we're not getting the 1.0 release of No Rest For The Wicked in October alongside PC and PS5 is the Xbox Series S. As spotted by VGC, Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler recently responded to a fan on Discord who asked "why no Xbox?" with the following message:
"Series S is making that rough. We'll ship it after in a good way once it's optimized like crazy for Switch 2 and Xbox."
Mahler had previously suggested (this time last year) that the game would likely skip Xbox for its 1.0 launch due to "current market conditions". He stated at the time that it "costs a ton of resources to make a full console port", and that "if we do something, we want to take the time to do it right".
Clearly, he doesn't feel that the Xbox Series S version of No Rest For The Wicked is in a good enough place to release this October, but it's reassuring that he's still committed to making it happen. At the end of the day, if Moon Studios needs more time to optimise for the Series S and Switch 2, we're happy to wait for a polished product.
