Roundup: Here's What The Critics Are Saying About Forza Horizon 6

With the Forza Horizon 6 embargo lifting earlier today, it's no surprise that an absolute ton of reviews are flooding in for Xbox's first-party title, including here at Pure Xbox where we gave it a 9/10 in our review:

But what about everyone else? We've had a quick browse around the web to see what the critics are saying about Forza Horizon 6 as things stand, picking out a few quotes and scores to share down below in the process.

Here's what the critics are saying about Forza Horizon 6 so far:

Pure Xbox (9/10)

"Forza Horizon 6 delivers what is easily the series' most complete experience to date. The Japanese map is amazing; a joy to explore - and the location's visuals are off the charts too, across the board. Whilst I'd have liked to see a bit more in terms of new races and event types, particularly in the Tokyo region, there's still so much fun to be had here that it's more of a nitpick than anything else."

IGN (10/10)

"Technically, Forza Horizon 6 has not skipped a beat, and it runs like a titan. Aesthetically, it’s the best-looking and best-sounding game Playground has produced to date, set in the most wonderfully realised map it’s ever crafted – full of dense, authentic details and stunning driving roads. It’s rewarding to explore, the campaign is well-paced with a great payoff, and I simply cannot stop playing. I’ll always concede Forza Horizon 3 may forever be my favourite open-world racer, because who doesn’t love driving around their own backyard, but make no mistake: Forza Horizon 6 is unequivocally the best. The new standard in open-world racing is here, and it’s a gundamn masterpiece."

VGC (5/5)

"Forza Horizon 5 was already an exceptional racing game, but Forza Horizon 6 takes everything up a notch to deliver an even more engaging, entertaining and all-encompassing experience. There's an absolute wealth of racing, exploring and collecting to do here, and that's before the inevitable live-service updates start adding even more content. Few games are as essential as this."

Eurogamer (5/5)

"Playground Games does it again: equal parts adept teacher and artisanal tour guide, Forza Horizon 6 takes the lessons from 14 years of series history and applies them with panache."

Dualshockers (9.5/10)

"There’s already a well-established formula in place, and Playground Games did well to continue delivering one of the best racing experiences you’ll ever have with Forza Horizon 6."

Game Informer (9.3/10)

"Even for a series built on delivering approachable racing action that appeals to both newcomers and hardcore players, Forza Horizon 6 impresses at each turn, delivering one of the greatest racing games of this generation."

GamesRadar (4/5)

"The best Forza Horizon game yet, delivering an astonishingly vast and detailed open world, filled with incredible features. With easily 100 hours of high quality solo content and infinite potential with community creations and online play, Forza Horizon 6 is a glorious showcase game for Xbox gaming. Just be warned the straight-laced racing gameplay is pretty tame compared to the genre's finest."

GameReactor (7/10)

"Horizon 6 disappointed me. Me, who has played all six instalments in the series. I feel some of the progress Horizon 5 introduced is missing; I don't think Playground are willing enough to experiment with everything from progression to UI design; and I don't think Japan comes across well as a setting here. But conversely, this, along with the last handful of Horizon games, is one of the best arcade racers you can find, based on everything this game predictably executes so masterfully. I therefore take the liberty of recommending Horizon 6 solely on the basis that it works as well as it does, although I must once again recommend that Playground Games really take their time to be more ambitious in the future."

At the time of writing, Forza Horizon 6 has a Metacritic rating of 92 and an OpenCritic score of 91, which marks a very successful release for Xbox and Playground Games. We're curious to see how this one evolves in the coming months, and how it goes down on PS5 at a later date!
