When we did our "Games Coming to Xbox Next Week" roundup last Saturday, the image we used for the thumbnail was taken from Soulslinger: Envoy of Death — and that game is officially out now on Xbox at a pretty budget price!
In this single-player roguelite FPS, you'll unleash your powers and upgrade your abilities to take on the criminal cartel of the afterlife. The 1.0 version of the game launched on PC back in April 2025 to "Mixed" reviews, but the vast majority of the negative reception is due to crashes that players have been experiencing on that platform.
So, how does it fare on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S? We unfortunately don't have much to go on just yet, but there first console reviews have started appearing, along with a few user reviews on the Xbox Store.
Let's start with those first mainstream console reviews for Soulslinger: Envoy of Death:
GameCritix (4/5) (Xbox Series X & PS5 Tested)
"Soulslinger: Envoy of Death is a stylish, high-octane roguelike shooter that balances arena chaos with meaningful progression and surprisingly thoughtful storytelling. It may not match AAA spectacle, and its room-based repetition occasionally dulls the edge—but moment-to-moment gunplay is satisfying, builds feel impactful, and the Weird West setting oozes personality."
"On PS5 and Xbox Series X, Soulslinger runs smoothly at 4K/60FPS. Load times are minimal. Particle effects during intense firefights remain stable... Menus are clean and controller-friendly. The transition from PC to console feels considered, not rushed. Given its indie scope, technical execution is impressively solid."
PS3Blog (8/10) (PS5 Tested)
"Fun roguelike first-person experience in which you’ll be diving into Limbo."
Gamer Section Media (3/5) (Xbox Series X Tested)
"It runs at 60FPS on the Xbox Series X version which makes the game smooth and responsive. The visuals and audio together created a really immersive experience, and despite being a roguelite, the game feels polished to a degree and intense enough to keep you hooked, even if you're somewhat tired of this type of game... There are some of the spots that lack originality, the game is extremely repetitive where you are going through different portals battling a horde of enemies until you get to the boss battle..."
4News (6.5/10) (PS5 Tested)
(translated) "Souslinger belongs to that small group of titles that, although without excelling in anything in particular, nevertheless manages to entertain thanks to its personality. And so, the combat system will not be excellent, but it entertains lightly and does its job. The progression will not be at the level of a Hades, but nevertheless it is easy to manage and does not complicate the life of the player with too many statistics and parameters."
As you can see, the reviews are mixed but generally pretty decent for the most part, and crucially they're not talking about crashing issues on Xbox Series X or PS5, so hopefully that's just limited to the PC version. For what it's worth, the few Xbox Store reviews we've come across have all been four or five stars, so most buyers seem to be happy so far!
