Earlier this year, Splitgate 2 unfortunately released to quite a mixed reception, and the team ultimately decided to take the game back into a "beta" state and try again with Splitgate: Arena Reloaded in December.
This version of the game is described as combining "the best of Splitgate 1 & 2, bringing back that classic arena shooter feel". And, based on first impressions from the Splitgate community, it's a big improvement! We're seeing loads of praise for Splitgate: Arena Reloaded so far, so it sounds like they've done a great job with this new release.
Nevertheless, it appears Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is really struggling in terms of player numbers at launch, with multiple outlets having picked up on this already. SteamDB tells us that less than 1,000 people are currently playing the game (on Steam) for example, which seems pretty disappointing for a new free-to-play release.
Here's hoping it can find a way to generate interest, as it looks like a genuinely excellent shooter! If you fancy trying it for yourself, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is now free to download for Xbox One, Series X and Series S on the Xbox Store, and there's also a version on the Xbox PC store that's optimised for the ROG Xbox Ally handheld(s).
