How is Mindseye harsh? It was a complete dumpster fire

I pre-ordered Mindseye, and then managed to get a refund on it. Funny enough I still have it installed on my Xbox, and the game gets updated every now and again. I never ever started the game when I owned it, and am curious whether I can still actually access it now, but I've never tried to start it as yet.

I have to say, I would love games to be reviewed, say, two years after they have released (two years being about the time when most, if not all, updates have been done to a game) so that we get a review that speaks to the current condition of a game, rather than when it first released...

I liked Mindseye quite a bit.

@Fiendish-Beaver yeah that's a very good idea. The original reviews for cyberpunk 2077 for example were rightly awful, then some outlets did a 2nd review for the 2.0 update and it started getting 8/9/10s and lo and behold it's sold millions since that update

The team has been working hard since launch to improve the experience and eliminate as many bugs as possible.

Then it's a pity that outlets were writing reviews of the game they were playing then - y'know, the version deemed fit for commercial release - and not the game they might be playing in six months' time. 🙄

@M20B25 I did, too! Thought the characters, acting, and cinematics were fantastic. I 100%-ed it and had a great time.

That's a great example, @Coletrain. Most games get updates and fixes after release for which they were marked down on when first reviewed, and most games are in a better state thereafter. Reviews of the bigger titles with issues at the start, or which have been significantly added to would be great to see.

However, that said, I do firmly believe that a game should release in optimal condition in the first place, and I am always puzzled as to why games are rushed out because when they then review badly for reasons that should have been known about prior to release, they are only hurting their bottom line in the long run.

I know some studios are strapped for cash, and pushing the game out early maybe the only option, but that is not the case for most. Why put out a game that scores a 7 or 8, when you can sort it prior to release and get 9s and 10s? No matter what people say, they see a game that scores a 7 (and even an 8), and people shy away from it. When it scores a 9 or 10, we are all over it. It makes zero sense to me because the developers are literally losing money in the long run. They're going to do the work to fix the game anyway, so why not just delay its release in the first place...?
