After months of waiting since its initial announcement, third-person mode is now live in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora - and the folks over at IGN have shared some extended gameplay of the new mode which you can take a look at above.

Pulling things out to an over-the-shoulder perspective, the new third-person option in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora mixes things up quite a bit. The bulk of the game remains the same, of course, but this is a welcome new way to play, and we think exploring Avatar's world in this way will prove a nice treat for fans.

Having said that, a quick look at the gameplay up above shows that this isn't quite a perfect translation from Ubisoft. In general it looks good fun, but the animations do look a little stiff, and we noticed some clipping with the environment that's likely less visible in first-person. Nothing major, then, but little quibbles nonetheless.

Anyway, the new third-person mode is now live as a free update for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and if you want to splash out, a new premium DLC — 'From the Ashes', to tie into the new film — releases December 19th on Xbox at a cost of $24.99 / £20.99.
