Forza Horizon 6 Devs Discuss Why Japan Was 'Right Fit' & When To Expect Gameplay

If you haven't seen it yet, Forza Horizon 6 was announced at Xbox's Tokyo Game Show event earlier today!

We didn't really get much information at the time though, with just a very short teaser trailer and a brief overview in the YouTube description section, which left fans wanting a lot more detail on what to expect.

Fortunately, Xbox Wire has the first exclusive information on Forza Horizon 6, talking with the team at Playground Games about why Japan is the "right fit" for this next entry in the series, as well as when to expect gameplay footage.

In the interview, it's mentioned that Japan was chosen as FH6's location due to being top of fans' wishlists, due to the technical side being able to "keep up with representing Japan correctly", and due to experience from previous games.

FH6 Art Director, Don Arceta: “The beauty of Horizon games is that each one gives us learnings and ways to make the next even bigger and better. As well as taking player feedback into account, we’ve also been able to lean into more practical things – for instance, the Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels DLC has helped us develop the elevated roads of Tokyo City in FH6.”

“While fans have been asking for this location for a long time, it was important to us to acknowledge the love and reverence we have for Japan and its unique culture. What better way to do that than announcing in Tokyo at Japan’s biggest gaming event of the year?”

Beyond this, the team aren't willing to go into much detail about what to expect from Forza Horizon 6's rendition of Japan right now, but we do know that Tokyo City will be included, said to be "one of our most detailed and layered environments to date". Like other Forza Horizon games, FH6 won't offer a "one-to-one chunk of the real world".

Changing seasons will return as well, although this time the focus won't just be on how the game looks, but how it feels. The team say these changes will "subtly shift tone, activity, and sound".

“For Japan, seasonal changes have a dramatic impact on the landscape and playable world, but also hold a deeper cultural meaning for the country and its culture.”

There's also a mention that Forza Horizon 6 will be "delivering a broad range of cars that players will know and love", while also exploring the "unique car culture" that you'll find in Japan.

And finally, what about gameplay!? Well, Playground Games says more information will be revealed on Forza Horizon 6 in early 2026, and we're guessing that means it'll have a spot at the Xbox Developer Direct in January. Don't expect to hear much before then, but hopefully we'll get a big deep dive in just a few months' time!
