Alinea Analytics Says Gears Reloaded Is Tracking Well Behind Forza Horizon 5 On PS5

Considering how old the game actually is but with a touch up and bare bones compared to what you would expect for the gears games now that's pretty good!

I actually think it's probably only like 100k on PlayStation.
Not good news for Microsoft. I'm sure they wanted millions of people to jump in so that when Gears E-Day releases there will be a bigger audience.
Gears plays kind of old school and the multiplayer is super hard to master. I can imagine any Gears game flopping on PlayStation. There's just no room in a world of Fortnite, Apex and Warzone for a game like Gears which is super slow paced.

Not that surprising... FH5 still a fairly new game in a genre not represented very well on PS... Gears (which I love) rather outdated, and certainly not close to being the best shooter on PS

@TheGameThrifter The newer gears games are a lot faster more fluid slightly easier to master.
And this gears game dispite the visual upgrade the controls are of a game basically the same as nearly 20 years ago when it released so it doesn't feel great to play.
And where did the 100k number come from if it's reported everywhere it's at least double that??

Alinea Analytics is not a reliable source. They work on guesswork, even using store reviews as argument. Only Microsoft and Sony know how much.

What is news really is that Helldivers 2 being #1 and #4 (#3 now) at the same time with two different editions on the Xbox store's best-selling ranking means that we're going to see a lot of Sony ports on Xbox, if there was any doubt about it.

@Ricky-Spanish Every Gears game literally copy and pasted animations directly from Gear 1 and 2 to each game. Even the brand new enemy in Gears 4 and 5 uses the exact same animations. Literally 1 to 1, even a maimed enemy crawling away uses the exact same 13 year old last gen animation in Grars 5.

A 20yr old game at its core with that 20yr old design and basically a port of the 10yr XB1 Ultimate edition with little/no major work to improve things like AI for example - vital for Solo play in campaign as you have an AI partner throughout.

Helldivers 2 is a year old, built for this gen hardware and has an Active playerbase meaning that the game was well populated at launch on Xbox. Gears is not likely to be that popular on Xbox/PC at launch - just because they've already played it at least once. As its the Ultimate edition, just with revised settings for more powerful hardware (increased Resolution, Quality settings and frame rate caps), there is little/no reason to rebuy unless you want to play with PS5 friends...

I agree. It is a massive assumption, @Medic_alert. Plus the quantity of sales does not necessarily have to be huge to be number one and number four, it all depends on how well the other titles that make up the top ten have done as well.

I mean, technically, Helldivers could have sold 10 copies, and 7 copies to occupy the number 1 and number 4 spots respectively. Obviously I am not suggesting that, but in theory, the number 2 game could have sold 9 copies, and so on.

Actual numbers are what are needed if we are to have a genuine idea of how well it has sold, and in all honesty, I would imagine that Sony might be the ones to tell us at some point, especially if a significant milestone is reached.

However, back to your point, how well Helldivers 2 performs, will most likely only relate to whether or not we get any of the other Sony made Live Service games, and also whether we get them day one.

As for Sony's big AAA single-player games, I don't see that happening. Helldivers 2 would probably have to outsell the numbers sold on the PlayStation before Sony even consider porting their big IPs...

1.3 million downloads is still only 3 to 4% of gamepass users. I dont know how successful it is if the game is essentially free to those 30+ million people who already pay for gamepass and less than 5 percent are downloading it launch week.

I made the same argument about hi fi rush, 3 million players when 30+ million have "free" access to play the game of the year contender is not very good. Then if you look at the fall off rate of achievements unlocked, a very small fraction of those 3 million are actually playing a substantial amount of a relatively short game. (30% unlocked achievement for beating track 2 of 12)

Maybe its a symptom of gamepass but player counts and download counts are not very impressive to me. I wonder how many are like me and have gears reloaded downloaded but haven't played it yet. I am also only looking to get a taste of the improvements made before bouncing off (unless I am wowed by the improvements). I feel like counting me as player or one of the downloads isn't really representing an actual player.

I think this is common sense. I wouldn't have bet on Gears to out perform Forza on PS5.

Now if they put Gears 6 on PS5, that would be a different story maybe.

@XberOne for me, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Helldivers 2, the 2 Horizon games, Uncharted 4... not saying any in particular are better than Gears, more that there are lots of different options whereas that isn't the case for arcade open world racers...

@andrewsqual Obviously you haven't played the games enough to see the differences I've completed the games all multiple times and played the multiplayer on every version a lot and I'm tell you every game there are differences to how the movement works and feels and not to mention different ways to mantle in the later games and actions in cover I've spent thousands of hours in these games multiplayer and campaign so I'm not someone throwing out an uneducated opinion ✌️

@dkxcalibur they should have remastered the full trilogy and put it out on ps5; there’s no way any gears game tops the trilogy imo. it’s a huge missed opportunity to only release the first game as a first impression to a new audience in 2025.

@Dimey They are great 3rd person games but none would top modern gears games for a multiplayer experience horde is amazing fun and the multiplayer on both gears 4&5 are quite active to this day maybe with the player base that playstation has the would be taught of more within the gaming community.

I mean I love gears 1 it's a classic I've completed it so many times but it's hands down the worse of the series judgement is overall a better game considering everything ha✌️

It wont touch FH at all. That game is practically the only game of its kind on PS - and future FH games released on the platform (day one) will just print money for MS. Gears, as great as it is, is old. There's every chance people know how short and gritty it is, and just don't rush to grab it in favour of everything else that's on the market this year.

Yet, the game is currently top 3 in the UK Charts. Sounds like it's doing well. I get it some people wanna see the game fail on PS5, so future games won't appear on the console.

I read a report yesterday that is debunking the methodology used by the people that gave that 900k figure, @Millionski. The methodology, not the number, just to be clear.

The truth is that we don't actually know how well the game has sold as yet, but if it really did sell 900k in just 6 days, then I would have thought that Microsoft would tell us when it hits the million mark, and if not Microsoft then surely Sony will want to shout about it.

Honestly, I think it probably has sold very well, but if it has hit that million mark, you'd think that someone actually in the know would tell us, would you not...?

I disagree, @Millionski. It cannot be a small, old game. It needs to be one of their mainstay titles. Uncharted, Bloodborne, or similar. Some small obscure old title tells us nothing (plus they wouldn't do that anyway because there's probably no money to me made in doing that)...

I promise you, @Millionski, indeed I give you my word, I have always said AAA single-player games. Look up all my comments on the subject and you will see I have always said this. I promise you...

You are missing the point that both @Medic_alert and I made, @Millionski; neither of us said that the game sold just 10 copies, only that it is possible to be at the number 1 spot with just 10 sales providing that the other games in the chart sold as follows:

1. 10 copies sold
2 . 9 copies sold
3. 8 copies sold
4. 7 copies sold
5. 6 copies sold
6. 5 copies sold
7. 4 copies sold
8. 3 copies sold
9. 2 copies sold
10. 1 copies sold

Neither of us are saying that is what has happened, just that it is mathematically possible. All that needs to happen for a game to occupy the number one most sold games chart is that they sold more than all the other games in the chart. It does not tell you how many copies the game sold, just that it sold more than the rest.

However, I stress yet again, that I am not saying it sold just 10 copies.

It has probably sold 11 by now... 😂

I am not fighting anything, @Millionski. Banjo himself pointed out that the methodology employed to calculate the sales is flawed. I have not said how many copies it sold one way or another, and frankly I don't particularly care one way or another. It does not affect me in the slightest. If it sold really well, then great. If it flopped hard, oh, well. I really don't care, and have never suggested otherwise...

I don't think I ever commented on the HD2 petition articles, @Millionski, but if I did, I probably said that there was always a possibility because of the nature of the game (Live Service).

I don't think HD2 will be ported in isolation, as I think Sony will port all their Live Service games because a games survival depends on their being the maximum possible players available, which means Xbox will be included.

I don't celebrate it as such, because I see it as a necessity, and really I don't see it as any different from a third-party game releasing on all platforms. I was pleased for those that wanted to play HD2 on the Xbox, and thought Sony had been foolish not to port it right at the start as I'm sure the game would have sold even better on the Xbox had it released simultaneously across all platforms at the same time. There is hype right now on the Xbox, that hype was even bigger back when the game first released, so I think Sony missed a trick there.

When it comes to HD2, I am still mildly interested in getting the game myself, but I have no interest in either Marathon or Fairgames Live Service offering.

I do maintain though that putting a Live Service game on the Xbox does not show intent on behalf of Sony other than perhaps putting future Live Service games on the Xbox. Obviously we already know that Marathon is coming as that is contractually obliged to come to the Xbox. We don't yet know about Fairgames, although I suspect it will also come over, particularly so if HD2 sells well on the Xbox.

What I don't accept as yet, though, is that HD2 is a sign that Sony will begin to port their AAA single-player games. Not even old ones like Uncharted etc....

@Millionski Of course, there will be more Sony games on Xbox. To talk nonsense and pedantry and throw absurd arguments like negatively extrapolate what topping the charts (twice, with two editions counted separately) means gives you an idea of the level of denial.

@Millionski Mental gymnastics when people actively dislike Xbox are common. Now that Xbox has more games than Sony, Game Pass is a resounding success and it's been proven that players do buy games on Xbox, what else can be said?

Both Microsoft and Sony are all about the business. Jim Ryan was not just a CEO, but a fanboy, but there are two new CEOs ruling Sony now, for a reason. They know earnings are higher porting to PC and Xbox and that 99.99% of the PS user base don't care about it. The "it's not profitable" is one of the weakest arguments that the haters use. No need to sell millions of copies to make a port profitable. Silent Hill 2 will, of course, come to Xbox and will sell very well, like the Final Fantasy games (the 22,000 copies sold report was false), Death Stranding, MLB The Show, Helldivers 2...

Besides, porting to Xbox is very easy when there is a Windows version and will not even be necessary when Xbox and PC use the same version of Windows and game builds. There are still some temporary exclusives this generation, but they are becoming more and more unusual. Every prominent third-party game will be multiplatform and both Microsoft and Sony have started porting games to each other. This is the reality.
