Remember the high profile Alpha test and subsequent delay of Bungie's extraction shooter Marathon? To be honest, we wouldn't blame you if the whole thing slipped to the back of your mind - but today, we have some interesting comments from Sony on what's next for the upcoming series revival (thanks, VGC).
First off, the PlayStation maker has given us a rough timeline on when we can expect the revised version of Marathon to launch. Sony CFO Lin Tao says that they "expect the launch to happen within the fiscal year"; which ends March 31st, 2026. Don't take that release window to the bank though - Tao quickly added that this timeline "is not a commitment", with the team at Bungie yet to confirm a launch date.
"First, about Marathon, how we factored it in the forecast, we expect the launch to happen within the fiscal year,
But, having said that, this is not a commitment. No official announcement has been given yet."
You can expect more concrete launch information to come "in the Autumn", but before we get there, the Sony CFO made some pretty interesting comments about the general future of Bungie. The former Xbox developer "is becoming more part of PlayStation Studios" rather than its initial "very independent environment", so we'll have to see what that means for future releases.
We'd still expect their games to come to Xbox though, regardless. From the outset, Bungie wanted to remain committed to multiplatform launches - and with Sony now exploring that world with its own releases like Helldivers 2, the Destiny maker's future games going PS5 exclusive seems highly unlikely.
