Bungie Delays Xbox Shooter Marathon After Mixed Feedback To Recent Alpha

Earlier this year, Bungie swung open the doors to its upcoming FPS Marathon - allowing players across Xbox, PlayStation and PC to try out the team's new extraction shooter and provide feedback ahead of launch. Well, that feedback was pretty mixed, so much so that the team has delayed the game indefinitely.

In a new blog post on Bungie's website, the PlaySation studio revealed that in the wake of "your passionate feedback around the Marathon reveal and Alpha playtest", its upcoming FPS has been pushed back "to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion".

Here's a bit more on this delay and Bungie's future plans for the title:

"Through every comment and real-time conversation on social media and Discord, your voice has been strong and clear. We've taken this to heart, and we know we need more time to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion. After much discussion within our Dev team, we’ve made the decision to delay the September 23rd release.

You’ll hear from us again later this Fall when we can share the progress we’ve made, alongside the game’s new release date. Thank you again for your patience and— much more importantly— your passion. Your continued feedback will help us make Marathon the incredible gaming experience we all know it can be."

With Bungie saying that we won't hear from the Marathon team again until this fall, we're going to assume that its upcoming extraction shooter will now miss 2025 altogether - although we'll have to wait and see what that update brings later in the year to know for sure.

In the meantime, the former Halo developer is working on the next big expansion for its ever-evolving shooter Destiny 2 - with 'The Edge of Fate' DLC launching on Xbox in just under a month here on July 15.
