Last week finally brought us the long-awaited release date of Hollow Knight: Silksong (on Xbox Game Pass, no less) as part of Gamescom 2025, and the big surprise was that it's not far away at all - we'll literally be playing it next week!
That's obviously not great news for indie developers who have a game scheduled for release around the same time though, and Demonschool is one that got caught up in that - a new tactics RPG that was planned for September 3rd.
You can see the release date trailer for that game with a mention of September 3rd, 2025 up above.
As a result of this, the game's publisher issued a statement on social media yesterday, explaining that Demonschool was being pushed back to November 19th due to requiring as much visibility as possible:
And then, the developer (Necrosoft Games) issued a separate statement, clearly indicating frustration at having to move their game back by a couple of months.
Specifically, they explained how they were "mad at the situation" and not at their publisher:
"This was not our choice but we understand why the choice was made. We aren't mad at Ysbryd but at the situation. Dropping the GTA of indie games with 2 weeks notice makes everyone freak out. Ysbryd is being a good partner and paying for the delay. We're sorry this is happening."
It seems like there's been a mixed reaction to the news overall, with many people sharing sympathy and insisting it won't affect their purchasing decisions whatsoever, although some have expressed how they feel the two games aren't that similar and they didn't feel a delay was necessary in this case.
That said, the whole situation has attracted plenty of views on social media (and articles like this one!), so perhaps this was always the best case scenario for Demonschool - it's put a lot more eyes on the game over the past 24 hours!
