Square Enix Announces Two Brand-New RPGs For Xbox Series X|S

Nintendo finished off their July 2025 Direct today with the announcement of two brand-new RPGs from Square Enix, and they've both since been confirmed to be coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as well!

The first was a true surprise - a game called "The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales" that's being developed by Team Asano (Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default, Triangle Strategy) featuring the HD-2D art style. Switch 2 owners can actually play the free demo for it today, while we'll have to wait until 2026 to get our hands on it.

Octopath Traveler 0 kinda got leaked ahead of the event, so we knew it was probably coming, but that doesn't make the announcement any less exciting! As the name suggests, this is a prequel to the first Octopath Traveler game, featuring an "expansive adventure full of incredible stories to discover". Best bit? It's out this December!

We'll throw more details and trailers for both of these new Square Enix RPGs down below:

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales - TBD 2026

"Developed by Team Asano (OCTOPATH TRAVELER series, BRAVELY DEFAULT series, TRIANGLE STRATEGY) this exciting new game puts you in the red hat of Elliot - a skilled adventurer who embarks on a mission to explore some newly discovered ruins. Before long, he’s embroiled in a thrilling journey will echo across time and space.

As Elliot, you’ll explore a beautiful and expansive world, full of enemies to defeat in crunchy action-packed combat, deadly caves and ruins to explore and secrets aplenty to uncover. Elliot can use seven different weapon types, from simple swords for close-range attacks, to sickle and chains to bring foes in close."

Octopath Traveler 0 - December 4, 2025

"OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 is a standalone adventure set in the world of Orsterra - some years before the events of the first OCTOPATH TRAVELER game. For the first time in the series, you create your own customizable protagonist and set off on adventure to apprehend those who destroyed your beloved hometown - and rebuild it in the process.

It’s an expansive adventure full of incredible stories to discover. The series’ classic Path Actions make a return, allowing you to interact in different ways with the world’s many NPCs. You can also recruit over 30 characters to join you in battles, with a party of up to eight heroes at a time!"
