Our second Xbox Game Pass addition of the week is now live in the library, with cosy management sim Minami Lane now playable for subscribers. This one has been out on other platforms for a while now, and we have a small selection of reviews from the game's initial 2024 launch to take a look at.

We're going to gather up those impressions down below, so you can get a flavour of the Minami Lane experience as it goes live on Xbox Game Pass.

Hardcore Gamer (4.5/5)

"Minami Lane is a testament to the charm and depth indie games can offer. With its engaging blend of management and strategy wrapped in an irresistibly-cute package, it's a delightful journey that invites players to create, manage and grow their little slice of paradise. The presence of a talking tanuki guide is just the cherry on top, adding a unique, whimsical touch that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Minami Lane. Whether you're strategizing your next build in Mission and Planner Mode or freely decorating in Creative Mode, Minami Lane will surely captivate and charm your heart."

New Game Network (8/10)

"There are plenty of games in the very low price end of the market, but few look and play as solidly as Minami Lane. Sure, its mechanics are hardly innovative, and you won't find much challenge or complexity here. Even so, the gameplay is just engaging enough to keep you playing for the hour or two that the campaign lasts, and many will probably keep going beyond that thanks to the Sandbox mode. It's a charming and idyllic way to spend a few hours, and though there are a few very minor qualms, you can hardly ask for more from the very low $4 asking price."

Screen Hype (7.4/10)

"It certainly has a lot of promise, and the mechanics involved are well-implemented. (...) Unfortunately, it’s let down by its short length, and the lack of varied mechanics. I wish that the developers had spent a bit more time on creating more missions. Different customisation options would’ve been great too. Still, if you’re looking for a quick and simple game to bide your time, this fits the bill."

GameSpew (7/10)

"It’s true there’s not much to Minami Lane, but this is a fine example of wholesome gaming: simple, engaging and wonderfully relaxing. The fact it’s been made by such a small team makes it all the better. Don’t come here expecting an in-depth city building experience, but if a few hours of cosiness appeals, we’re pretty sure you’ll have a fine old time."

Siliconera (7/10)

"Minami Lane is the sort of game that is perfect for people-watchers. It’s leisurely. Meeting criteria for missions is never taxing. There are no penalties for taking your time. It’s just a short, relaxing experience that lets you feel like you’re helping to make a small town better."

While it sounds as though Minami Lane will only keep you engaged for a few hours, the reviews are pretty positive here, and it sounds like a nice little addition to Xbox Game Pass. This cosy management sim is now live in the Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass library.
