Xbox Data Shows 'Most' Console Owners Are Playing On Other Devices As Well, Says Exec

It's no secret that Xbox is going all-in on a multi-platform strategy these days, spanning the likes of console, PC, handheld and Xbox Cloud Gaming, and they're obviously doing this based on data that suggests it's a good idea.

In fact, speaking to GamesRadar as part of a big feature about Xbox Play Anywhere recently, Xbox Game Studios boss Craig Duncan advised that internal data shows "most" console owners are now playing on at least two devices, while also admitting console market growth has slowed. This is one of the reasons why XPA is considered so important.

"Our data shows most console players use two or more devices, and that playing the same game on different devices can be difficult. We also know that the console market growth across generations has slowed."

Duncan says Xbox wants its franchises to be as "big as possible", while also "making Xbox the best place to play these games". Therefore, he says it's "good for everyone" if Xbox keeps making "pro-consumer decisions" along these lines.

"Our strategy of reaching as many players as we can, anywhere they are, while making it seamless to buy a game once and have it playable across devices is good for everyone."

Of course, he's again alluding to Xbox Play Anywhere here, which is the name for a service that gives you a free version of your Xbox console game on PC, assuming it's a supported title. Right now, just over 1000 games are supported by Xbox Play Anywhere.

There's definitely still work to be done with Play Anywhere in terms of how many games are part of its library, and in other areas such as backwards compatibility where many original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles aren't playable on PC or the cloud yet, but evidently they're working very hard to make this ambitious multi-platform vision a reality.

But anyway, are you part of this "most" statistic? Are you playing Xbox games on more than one device? Tell us below!
