Okay, forgive us for a moment but the majority of folks here at Pure Xbox HQ had never heard of Cookie Clicker until two hours ago - but large swathes of the internet seem to be going mad at its newly-announced console version.
This basic 'cookie clicking sim' was first released as a browser game back in 2013, and has also been out for a number of years on PC platform Steam. Despite us apparently living under a rock for a while, that Steam release has gathered almost 75K reviews since 2021 - amounting to an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating overall.
Here's a quick introduction to Cookie Clicker, alongside some in-game images to get your appetite going:
"Cookie Clicker is a game about making an absurd amount of cookies. To help you in this endeavor, you will recruit a wide variety of helpful cookie makers, like friendly Grandmas, Farms, Factories, and otherworldly Portals."
As for that Xbox release, well, we know it's coming on May 22nd and will be playable across Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but the game's store page doesn't list the price right now. However, the Nintendo Switch version is listed for just £4.29 / $4.99, and we're expecting the Xbox release to cost a similar amount.
Anyway, we'll see how the cookie crumbles on this one and whether its Xbox release will prove as popular as the existing version seemingly is, but we're certainly seeing lots of folks excited about Cookie Clicker sliding out of its console-shaped oven on May 22.

There are some games I just don't understand their popularity - like Banana, the game where you click a static banana on the screen repeatedly which is somehow the 10th highest played game on Steam of all time (by concurrent players) with 900k. This is another one. But each to their own.
Am I missing something or is this just a game that has you hitting one button...?
@Kaloudz Vampire Survivors you don't click any button and that is extremely popular & addictive.
I don't get it either but there a game for everyone I guess.
@RiverGenie I suppose you're right, but man, I'm not sure I see even a shred of appeal.
Okay so I’ve just looked up this ‘idle game’ genre it’s all about taking away what makes games unique - the playing them part. It’s a genre of games that are intended just play themselves, you’re supposed to interact with them as little as possible and automate everything, that’s the whole point. Personally I don’t see the appeal.
Not buying unless it has keyboard and mouse support
People will play some right 💩 🤣😭
Trust me…there’s more to it than mindless clicking.
Never understood how this thing (I refuse to call it a game) became so popular. Are people that mindless?
Nope, definitely not for me. I want to play games.
Nope just too easy and too dumb for me. Railway Island 1 and 2 are cool along with the Dreamland Solitaire games.
Will the increasing number of cookies/size/type use up the hard drive?
@dskatter can you elaborate? Genuinely curious.
