Okay, forgive us for a moment but the majority of folks here at Pure Xbox HQ had never heard of Cookie Clicker until two hours ago - but large swathes of the internet seem to be going mad at its newly-announced console version.

This basic 'cookie clicking sim' was first released as a browser game back in 2013, and has also been out for a number of years on PC platform Steam. Despite us apparently living under a rock for a while, that Steam release has gathered almost 75K reviews since 2021 - amounting to an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating overall.

Here's a quick introduction to Cookie Clicker, alongside some in-game images to get your appetite going:

"Cookie Clicker is a game about making an absurd amount of cookies. To help you in this endeavor, you will recruit a wide variety of helpful cookie makers, like friendly Grandmas, Farms, Factories, and otherworldly Portals."

As for that Xbox release, well, we know it's coming on May 22nd and will be playable across Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but the game's store page doesn't list the price right now. However, the Nintendo Switch version is listed for just £4.29 / $4.99, and we're expecting the Xbox release to cost a similar amount.

Anyway, we'll see how the cookie crumbles on this one and whether its Xbox release will prove as popular as the existing version seemingly is, but we're certainly seeing lots of folks excited about Cookie Clicker sliding out of its console-shaped oven on May 22.
