Xbox's Quantum Break Temporarily Leaving Game Pass Due To 'Licensing Issues'

Who was still playing this game? It won't return unless it comes back as a remaster for X and S

@ZuneTattooGuy well I just played it as recently as mid last year. So I'm sure there are those who would have had this on their list and haven't played it.

Remember @zunetattooguy that some folks are new to Xbox so a lot of the old games are brand new to them. I still haven't played through any Gears game yet

Quantum Break is currently $8 digitally and physically so if it really means that much to some people that they haven't gotten around to it, then buy it and eventually play it

I’ve just started playing this in the last week, so I’ll probably purchase it today and make sure I can carry on. It’s clunky, needs optimising, but it’s fun! I’m a fan of all the Uncharted/Last of Us type games, so jumping to Xbox it’s given me a bit of that feel I suppose. The clunkiness of Uncharted 1 in parts with the fun of Uncharted 3/4 for me.

Obviously each to their own etc. but yes, thanks for the heads up, I’ll make sure to purchase it today!

Find it very strange that the licensing issue is getting in the way of it being on GamePass but not it being completely delisted.

I still say the timing is weird/terrible. This game has a renewed spotlight due to it starring Lance Reddick, and THAT'S when they delist it?? facepalm.

@ZuneTattooGuy There are new people jumping into the XBox ecosystem all the time, one of the highlights for many is very likely the huge backlog of games they never had the chance to try AND being able to just play them on Game Pass, due to its promise of **all** first party games being there. The deal was not "buy some for 8 bucks if you actually want to play it".

They don't own Remedy Studios so it's not a first party title, it's a 3rd party exclusive

Apparently it does matter because licensing is expiring hence it's removal.

@ZuneTattooGuy music licensing is what has been tossed around, zero to do with who developed the game, the article already says its coming back.

Also, you take it a bit too personally when people find fault with anything related to XBox, and insist too much on why they should not be upset. There is a thing as trying to defend your platform of choice too much, and I say that as someone that defends Xbox more than most.

I am more upset when people complain about a non issue. An old game no one really cared about is leaving. It may be back but who cares. There is still a ton available to play and more coming just this month alone. Move on

Just another reason why I prefer physical over digital. I bought this game years ago for dirt cheap and really enjoyed it. When it comes back, hopefully, it will have a 60fps patch for Series X.
I'd also like to see a sequel one day.

I wonder what licensing is involved after all this time? Seems strange that it applies to subscription and not sale. I don't remember licensed music in there. Maybe it has to do with licensing for screen acting since it's both a film and a game, and putting it on a "live broadcast" service due to streaming or something? Very odd.

Very bad timing for them though since it has more interest of people that never played it right at this moment.

Gaming really has to get this licensing thing right. You don't hear of books, movies, or records getting pulled from circulation due to "expired licenses."

Reminds me of the time Microsoft let the microsoft.com domain registration expire, and FSF kindly paid their renewal for them lol

@DTfeartheBEARD It's not an issue if you BOUGHT digital or physical, it's only an issue for people playing it on Game Pass, and maybe anyone that hasn't bought it yet but wants to (though so far it's not delisted from sale which is weirder.)

But physical vs. digital is a non-issue for this. All purchases are fine either way.

Physical vs Digital is totally redundant here as its still playable if you bought it - its just leaving Game Pass for a while.

Even if it was 'delisted', those that bought it digitally can still 'redownload' if they wanted/needed. The only people affected will be those who are or wanted to play it in the near future via a Game Pass Subscription.

I am sure it would still be available to buy cheaply on both formats if people wanted to buy it and that 'option' doesn't appear to be changing.

Just bought it since it was on sale for 8 smackers. I'll check it out In the near future.

@NEStalgia That's strange it's only being taken away from Game Pass. I thought it wouldn't be available digitally also. At least it's only temporary.

I haven't played Quantum Break in years but a 60fps patch and or sequel announcement would make me want to revisit it.

I just spent all day today playing it as it was leaving soon.

Have to say, what a great game! I loved the "Control" game so I could see similarities in this game.

The live action custscenes were a nice addition between the 5 acts.

This game was a pleasure to play from start to finish.

It's imminent removal has sparked me into playing it and I'm really enjoying it so far.
Good news that it won't be removed for ever, so I don't need to rush through it now

@NEStalgia If I remember correctly. QB had a lot of product placement particularly the Nissan brand and irl cars.

@Floki ahh, interesting, that probably is it. Microsoft and the cars, it's always Microsoft licensing with cars.... Wonder of they joint licensed or with Forza or something for a flat fee.

@NEStalgia Probably no one bothering with actually buying the game anymore. The licensing agreements also probably didn’t include offering the game on Game Pass since QB came out when game pass wasn’t even a twinkle in Phil Spencer eye yet.

I had downloaded this on Gamepass. Big fan of Remedy and their games so when I heard it was leaving I just bought it for £5. I need to actually start it but octopath 2 still has my time.

@Floki Yeah, QB is from Matrick's era, and I'm sure sales are low, but it still isn't getting delisted as far as we know, meaning whatever the licensing issue is, doesn't apply to selling the game, just putting it into subscription. It's an interesting distinction because I'm not sure we've seen such a licensing difference between digital retail and subscription before.

I tried playing it last night and it wasn't working already. Hopefully it gets added back sooner rather than later so i can carry on.

Might be wishful thinking, but hopefully this leads to a Series X/S version returning in its place.
