Welcome! It's time to kick off Gamescom 2022 with the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, which promises "new material on hotly anticipated games, exciting show elements and surprising guest appearances."

"Join Geoff Keighley live from gamescom in Cologne, Germany for a 2 hour showcase of what's next in video game, including world exclusive new looks at SONIC FRONTIERS, HOGWARTS LEGACY, THE CALLISTO PROTOCOL, THE OUTLAST TRIALS, RETURN TO MONKEY ISLAND, HIGH ON LIFE, and many more."

As mentioned above, the showcase is expected to be around two hours long (so settle in!), and it'll begin at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST. If you're on a PC or laptop, you should be able to chat with us in the "live comments" to the right.

yeah I think so many games nowadays need to attract funds and developers, we get quick videos with no idea of genre or quality - all designed to get people to list it on Steam

This show for me lacks the impact of the E3 showcases of old.

yeah might give an MMO a chance at some point - just remembered why I struggled with Destiny is that my gaming sessions can get cut short

If you have Game Pass, you can try many things that you are 'unsure/apprehensive' about and not lose anything - may even find you get hooked LOL

I'm 50yrs old and don't want to play with 'youngsters' and only occasionally with youngsters - but MMO's can be played Solo and 'join' in with random world events

That does look impressive visually - and on Game Pass too - did enough to make me want to try it....

I'm looking forward to SteelRising because I loved GreedFall and hope they can do even better with less jank, but worry they're trying to jump on the Souls-like bandwagon lol

yeah I generally like solo play though, if I'm online I want to play with friends but as an adult I often now get to play dumb times lol

MMO's like Elder Scrolls is different - you can go at your own pace, do what you want etc...

I'm really looking forward to Starfield though, and then hopefully later next year we'll get one of the others too (Fable or Avowed)

and play regularly, you end up miles behind on the story and it's all changed

BAMozzy - yep the whole MMO / live service is starting to do me in, I liked the Destiny universe but I find it exhausting as if you don't keep up with all the expansions

yeah it's looks good, reminds me very much of Valve or Riot's style

but your own character nowadays is more in online MMO's with progressive storylines and world building over many many years...

Well there is games like Starfield, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Fable, Perfect Dark etc in development - Mass Effect too but nothing on Deus Ex...

hmm I don't mind Sonic going 3D like that

too many just seem more worried about combat, skill trees or MMO / monetisation than an epic story

I do worry sometimes when watching these shows though that we may not get many games on the level of Mass Effect or Deus Ex again
