We've got a treat on the way to Xbox Game Pass this week! Twelve Minutes, an interactive thriller with a Hollywood cast, is launching on the service for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming on August 19.
Ahead of its release, we've put together a quick guide so you know what to expect when Twelve Minutes arrives, as well as some details on what it's like, pre-load details and the exact time it goes live on Xbox Game Pass.
What Is Twelve Minutes?
Twelve Minutes is a real-time top-down interactive thriller created by Luis Antonio and published by Annapurna Interactive. The game takes place over a time loop of 12 minutes, and focuses on a plotline in which a romantic evening turns into a nightmare as your wife is accused of murder and you're beaten to death.
The story unravels from there, and here's what the official blurb says about it:
"What should be a romantic evening with your wife turns into a nightmare when a police detective breaks into your home, accuses your wife of murder and beats you to death...
Only for you to find yourself immediately returned to the exact moment you opened the front door, stuck in a TWELVE-MINUTE time loop, doomed to relive the same terror again and again, unless you can find a way to use the knowledge of what’s coming to change the outcome and break the loop."
What Is Twelve Minutes' Cast?
A big deal has been made about the cast in Twelve Minutes, as it's a star-studded one! The main character is played by none other than X-Men star James McAvoy, your wife is played by Star Wars' Daisy Ridley, and the cop is played by Willem Dafoe (who has been in far too many things to name!). Talk about a Hollywood lineup...
What Kind Of Gameplay Can I Expect In Twelve Minutes?
As you can see from the video above, Twelve Minutes is essentially a point-and-click game, but with its own spin on that formula. The basic idea is that you point to where you want to go, or what you want to interactive with, and you'll be able to pick up objects, combine them with other things, and choose from various dialogue options.
The story will open up as you progress, and you'll find new ways to interact as a result.
Here's what the game's creator had to say about the gameplay in an interview with Collider:
"I’m curious how gamers will react to the lack of clear objectives and interpret the situation they are put in. Each loop, you get breadcrumbs that open possibilities, but this playspace is all in your head, the apartment never changes, and everything resets. It’s up to you to decide what to pursue, and I find that pretty fascinating."
How Long Does It Take To Beat Twelve Minutes On Xbox Game Pass?
Twelve Minutes creator Luis Antonio has talked about game length in a couple of interviews, and the general assumption is that it will take between 6-8 hours to beat the game. However, he's also advised that you can get around 15 - 18 hours out of it if you're specifically searching for what he would call a "satisfactory ending".
What Is The Release Time For Twelve Minutes On Xbox Game Pass?
Twelve Minutes isn't getting your typical midnight release, at least not according to the Microsoft Store.
As far as we can see, it'll be available with Xbox Game Pass at 9am PDT / 12pm EDT / 5pm BST on Thursday August 19, so you're unfortunately going to be waiting a little while before you can play it on the day.
How Do I Pre-Load Twelve Minutes On Xbox Game Pass?
There's no way of doing this via Xbox Game Pass right now, but there is a way to install the game ahead of time by using the standard Xbox mobile app for Android or iOS. From there, all you need to do is search for the game and then select 'Download to Console', after which it'll start downloading the 2.3GB file remotely to your system.

Very excited for this title. I'll be playing it on the cloud!
@InfamousOrange this would be a perfect fit for xcloud. Especially if it's touch enabled.
Not really a fan of point and click games, but I'll give this a shot since it's on Game Pass.
as an old gamer (44yo) who grew up playing point and click games on PC, this seems like a treat! and even more so knowing I get to play it on gamepass!
