You may or may not have seen that Bloodroots is heading (at launch) to Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and via Xbox Cloud Gaming next week, arriving on Thursday, July 15.

The gory top down beat 'em up from developer Paper Cult made something of a name for itself when it launched on other systems last year. It sits at a modest score of 75 on Metacritic for Nintendo Switch, and has grown something of a cult following since then. Our sister site Nintendo Life gave Bloodroots an 8/10 back in March 2020.

But what makes it so good that players are rallying behind it? For a start it has an incredible art style that makes traversing the environments an absolute blast. Along with that, it features some great, punchy arcade melee combat, making each run-through feel very addictive. We loved our time with it last year when it launched on the Switch, so we're excited to jump into it again with Xbox Game Pass.

"One-hit kill die-retry murderballet. Left for dead by a colorful band of bandits: you will chain killing sprees to exact revenge on the treacherous Mr. Black Wolf. Improvise your kills with utterly everything you can get your hands on: from carrots to plasma guns."

If all of this sounds like it might be right up your alley, well, you won't have to wait much longer. Bloodroots is joining Xbox Game Pass on July 15 and is well worth your time if even a single part of this appeals to you. Even if you're not a fan of the genre, it's still worth checking out. You never know, you might be pleasantly surprised.
