While we still don't have a definitive release date for Halo Infinite, we do have our first look at the game's multiplayer - which is looking pretty spectacular.
It's all there. The combat, the visuals, and of course, the fan favourite announcer commenting on your epic kills. As previously known, the multiplayer segment will be free-to-play, so you and your friends can tear it up online when Halo Infinite drops later this year.
A related Halo blog post is also packed full of details, beautiful screenshots, and confirmation that there will be limited pre-release technical previews with Halo Insiders later this summer. So, if you want to attempt to gain access, be sure to sign up as a Halo Insider to avoid disappointment.
What do you think of the first look at multiplayer in Halo Infinite? Let us know in the comments below.

It looks visually better each time and the gameplay has looked great since the first trailer.
Can’t believe they did not give us at least 5 minutes of new campaign real gameplay footage.
I’m still none the wiser with Halo Infinite.
I don’t know how to feel about this. I thought infinite was going back to its roots with combat? Definitely looks like a free to play multiplayer game and not the classic style halo multiplayer.
@Dezzy70 damn right this is one of the things i'm so disappointed about the showcase
@endlessleep
It was what I was looking forward to and they really played Halo down, not as a lost cause but just low key. Wonder why.
If something is an amazing show case, you show it especially Halo.
Looks great, but why did we get LESS on the single player campaign than we did last year? And why no actual release date, when other holiday games like Forza got a date?
I was hoping for a decent sized campaign demo, if they cant show it at this point there's a good chance this could be delayed
@Wilshiire You have to be very careful with the "returning to its roots" line. Both Halo 4 and 5 were both talked about as if they were "returning to Halo's roots".
I think there's plenty here that does take inspiration from the Bungie games, and I could easily see Infinite being closer to older Halo than either 4 or 5, and probably 343i's highest rated game.
However, we need to remember that some of the corporate powers still remain, and with it, the design by focus group (out of place game mechanics) and mandated monetisation (microtransactions) will remain. So we are going to have to wait until it's fully shown off.
(it's worth noting that on their very first reveals, both Halo 4 and 5 looked promising too, and they went downhill as major details became known.)
@Richnj idk if I would say halo 5 multiplayer went downhill. While I will admit the gameplay in H5 was not fully classic halo it was a return to even starts, revitalized the competitive scene and keep halo afloat for 6yrs. I think from a multiplayer perspective 343 learned a lot of lessons with H5 that I expect to be carried into infinite. People forget but halo 4 killed competitive halo so for 343 to be able to bring it back and keep a competitive community this long since the launch of H5 speaks volumes to the lessons they learned and could apply. I expect that to be carried into infinite but we will have to wait for a playable beta to really start to be sure about how infinite is gonna be.
@PuppyToucher It's not just the competitive scene though. Halo 5 MP was dead outside of the US. BTB was missing, game types were missing, it was infested with microtransactions and lots of bland, grindy unlocks. And on top of that, the focus on SAs really did take away from teamwork and map control, and made the base gameplay too sweaty for casual players.
(there's probably other things too. Like lacking split screen. I use to know the flaws like the back of my hand, but after 6 years it's hard to recall)
And I remember 343i having to form their own Halo league to keep the scene alive because there was no interest in it in the normal circuits. Again, I'm fuzzy on that.
@Richnj I know both NA and EU have fairly active grassroots competitive scenes because I follow a few of the players. 343 did mess of the launch of halo 5 no argument here and if you left after the first month or so I can see why you have a sour taste about the multiplayer side of the game. But 343 used the micro transactions to give free updates to keep the base game a level playing field for all players and those updates also greatly fleshed out the multiplayer modes for all players for free. To me that is worth having the micro transactions because after that first year or so of updates the game had so much breadth and depth just in its multiplayer.
I will also entirely concede halo 5 is too sweaty for causal and a part of that is due to Spartan abilities, but I cannot agree that spartan abilities take away from map control and teamwork. If anything the advanced movements reinforce both map control and teamwork and harshly punish players that do not have a good understanding of it at mid to high rank. That is why I think the game is too sweaty for casuals, there is so much they need to be aware of and the timing of how to rotate around the map that it can be an unforgiving learning curve.
The competitive scene was jump started by 343 but their support ended in 2018 but you still have really high level players still competing in tournament regular into this year.
