As you might recall, Bethesda kicked off this year with the surprise announcement of a new Indiana Jones game.
While the teaser trailer didn't show much at all, fans did learn that the game is being handled by Bethesda and MachineGames - the team behind the Wolfenstein series.
So, what's the latest on this anticipated project? According to the LinkedIn page of a MachineGames' lighting artist, the upcoming release is now in production (surprise, surprise), but perhaps more interestingly - it seems the team might have been working on it since at least March this year.
"Indiana Jones Mar 2021 - Present, Lighting Artist on currently in production Indiana Jones title. Details will be forthcoming in the future"
This same LinkedIn profile also suggests MachineGames may have helped Arkane Studios with Deathloop - with the artist noting how they spent time for "about one year" (until February 2021) on this timed PlayStation 5 and Windows exclusive, as a level lighting artist.
And for those wondering if Indiana Jones might impact Bethesda's other projects, don't worry. As reported earlier this year - it won't affect Todd Howard's focus on Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI and is supposedly a bit of a "passion project" for him.
Are you looking forward to this upcoming release? When do you think we'll see it? Leave your thoughts down below.

I hope it looks like Uncharted and Tomb Raider...
@Richard-92 I think it'll be a bad idea to try and copy Unchartered for a few reasons. It most likely won't be as good as Unchartered which was the problem with Tomb Raider, and that type of game has been over done recently. I'm hoping for something new and innovative so it can stand out from the others. Basically not another Tomb Raider please...
first person please, and a unique but clean and modern artstyle with tons of artifact lore and spin-offs of our history on earth and the gameplay mixed between Far Cry and Uncharted
Q: is this an Xbox exclusive?
@RadioHedgeFund
Shakes Magic 8 Ball: Reply hazy, try again.
@Kaori-chan @The_New_Butler I have to agree with the two of you. I love the Uncharted games, but outside of characters and graphics, I don’t think they do anything better. TR has better platforming, better combat, more variety in weapons and play style. The original Uncharted is a slog to get through, the other’s combat moments over stay their welcome, but they play smoother and are a more entertaining experience, but I don’t believe I ever felt that way with the TR games.
@The_New_Butler interesting - obviously I don't agree but that's fine. I just couldn't finish the Tomb Raider games because they couldn't hold my interest the way the Unchartered ones did - although I got about 3/4 the way through the first but could only last about an hour in the second. Perhaps I will give them another go with the FPS boosts?
I still don't really want another UC game packages as Indiana Jones though as I still think UC have basically peaked that style of game and we've done it all before now. I'd even take a point and click adventure first - but can understand nobody would want that other than me!
Uncharted has been massive for Sony and they’re probably my favorite game series, I hope this game goes the 3rd person action adventure game route like them. It would be a major disappointment if this turns into a 1st person game as that would be similar to most of Xbox games, they need a good 3rd person exclusive.
@StonyKL the whip is enough to give an indie game a lot of unique gameplay. The fact that indie carries a revolver with 5/6 bullets also means this just won't instantly become a shooting heavy game. And I hope they don't just make it so that he stars picking enemy rifles left and right.
This game should feature lots lower and methodical combat, with a huge dose or platforming, swinging and puzzle solving.
At least it they want to do it right.
I find it very hard to believe this not to be an Uncharted like game. I mean seriously, Uncharted only existed cause of Indian Jones.
Wether it'll be exclusive, who knows. Who knows when the deal was signed, and who knows if it was done so with multiplatform required. Disney likes their money so I'm leaning towards multiplat.
@Tharsman sounds like you're after Last of Us gameplay 😉
But think it would be good to have a more puzzle oriented game. Don't think Tomb Raider or UC is properly puzzle based - they're just too easy and don't require much thinking. Wouldn't mind them trying to make it require a lot more thinking to get through and perhaps less action, like you mention.
And I agree with you @The_New_Butler - I love the Naughty Dog games as some of my favourites (Unchartered and Last of Us) but I don't want an UC5 or LoU 3 unless they innovate the series. Would be happy for the mantle to be passed back to the original so long as it does the innovating for them.
@StonyKL I don't recall TLOU being a platformer with swinging mechanics.
I recall it being a mediocre stealth game I endured for the good story.
I am hoping for a 3rd person action/adventure with some occasional but great gun play, traps, and some interesting puzzles to solve, and above all, exploration. Let us explore and find treasures.
This could feel a bit like Uncharted but with somewhat different gameplay mechanics and a different mixture and balance of gameplay elements compared to UC.
I've been hoping for UC5 but I've come to realize that the Uncharted series is dead. There's Tomb Raider, a great series, and now that no longer has any competition. Xbox needs a great single player 3rd person exclusive. UC is gone. A good Indiana Jones game can fill the role with more exploration, more traps and puzzles to solve, less but better gun play, similarly fantastic animation, cinematic UE5 realism, and a realistic close combat system that is fun. I'd love for the combat system to be physics/AI based (remember Euphoria?).
