Update: Just around an hour after it went live, Microsoft appears to have already pulled the ability to pre-load Psychonauts 2 via the Xbox mobile app. We'll keep an eye out for any further developments!
Original story: Double Fine's highly-anticipated Psychonauts 2 has yet to receive a release date, so it's a massive surprise to see that not only has it appeared on the Microsoft Store, but it's available to download right now.
You can't download it via console, but through the Xbox mobile app as shown below:

We're assuming you can't actually access the game yet - even after downloading it - but the very fact that the full game has been uploaded to the Microsoft Store suggests a release is imminent, which is a definite surprise.
Pure Xbox can confirm that attempting to download the game via the Xbox app pushes it to your console, and it has a download size of around 27GB on Xbox Series X. Let's hope we get a shadow drop in the very near future!

Is Psychonaughts 2 exclusive to Xbox or is it timed exclusive..
Edit: Nevermind just found out it's going to PS4..

@Bmartin001 Yeah, they had already had agreements in place from when it was crowdfunded on Fig before Microsoft bought Double Fine. However, it is Next Gen exclusive to Series S/X and will be on Game Pass.
On the one hand...awesome! On the other, was hoping to take some time off of work for this one and a shadow drop would throw a wrench into planning for that.

Surely this game is too big to shadow drop? Or is it not as popular
I'm VERY confident this will be announced day and date at MS's E3 conference.
I'd love to get my hands on it before then, but it's just too easy a PR stunt.

I am quite willing to bet this is an error....right now. But they are ballsy enough to shadow drop this at E3.

Page is still up on the web but can’t find it to preload on the app any more. MS might have killed it.
When is the actual release date for the game?
I need some time to play the original on gamepass first 😅
