There's a lot of hype surrounding the new Battlefield, which is now officially expected to be revealed in June, and EA has talked a bit more about what fans can look forward to from the trailer when it arrives in a few weeks' time.
As part of an earnings call yesterday, EA CEO Andrew Wilson lavished praise on the trailer, calling it " really incredible," and stating that he thinks it's going to be an "amazing relaunch of that franchise this year."
"Nothing to announce at the moment on either an annualized release of Battlefield and/or the nature of the modes in the upcoming Battlefield game. We're going to talk about a lot around that in the months to come starting next month with our reveal trailer, which I had the chance of seeing the work in progress last week. And it is incredible. What the team has been able to do in the context of next-generation consoles and epic-scale battles, unbelievable player count, destruction in terms is really incredible."
"I would just — I would finish by saying we're really excited about Battlefield. Everything I've seen in the game is spectacular. And I think it's going to be an amazing relaunch of that franchise this year and lead us into an incredible live service for the future."
So far, we've seen a couple of supposedly leaked images from the trailer that have surfaced online in recent weeks, as well as audio clips from it, and EA has now confirmed that the game will be a cross-generation release.
Not long to wait, then, and based on these comments, it sounds like we're in for something special. We'll leave you with EA CFO Blake Jorgensen's thoughts on the trailer, which again appear to be highly positive:
"I'd love to tell you what I said when I saw the trailer last week, but I would — I can't because we'll get censored. But it's — to emphasize Andrew's point, I think people are going to be really blown away. And I'll tell you, on gen 5, it is even more spectacular. But it will be great on the either consoles, but it's going to be very exciting I think."
Do you think the new Battlefield will live up to the hype? Give us your thoughts down in the comments.

CEO and CFO promoting their products to help them buy bigger boats is all I see here.
They are right. I was really blown away by how terrible Battlefield V was... and I'm sure this one will be the same.
@Alan_Payne Tell us how you really feel...
However, I think companies need to learn a lesson in overhyping games. Better to let the game speak for itself when it's revealed imo. They really need to nail this one with the extra time and resources they have devoted to it. BFV was a visually good looking game, but was kind of lackluster in gameplay. I hope they put some good effort into mechanics and for the love of Pete, can we have some Bad Company 2 level destruction again?!?!?! Why does a game that old, still have the best destruction physics?!?!
Really looking forward to it, I love the Battlefield series..
@Trmn8r The first Bad Company had even a better level destruction. I recently replayed it using XGP Ultimate and it was just magnificent to see how great the destruction still is!
@Alan_Payne Yeah, I could never understand why they went away from that. It was soo good. I feel like the frostbite engine was a total bust.
CEO and CFO are really excited, because there are so many loot boxes players can spend money on, which mean soon they can buy their own yacht!
I did personally like Battlefield V though, I hope new one is good too.
Battlefield V was a disaster, hopefully they do a better job on both the game and the PR.
"EA says" doesn't fill me with confidence.
A game that i am looking foward to.
Trailers don't blow me away. "Recorded with in game assets" don't blow me away.
Fire the game up, have someone play it, non scripted, then and only then I might be blown away
