It Takes Two Is Metacritic's Xbox Series X Game Of The Year So Far

We're about to find ourselves one third of the way through 2021, and looking back at the period between January and late April, the highest-rated next-gen Xbox release on Metacritic was EA's brilliant co-op adventure, It Takes Two.

There haven't been too many major releases to mention of course, but It Takes Two still managed to beat the likes of Hitman 3, The Medium and Outriders. The only release on par was the next-gen upgrade for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, but it received less critical reviews overall and currently has a lower user score than It Takes Two.

Here are the top five Xbox Series X & S games of the year so far according to Metacritic:

  1. It Takes Two (89)
  2. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 (89)
  3. Control: Ultimate Edition (87)
  4. Judgment (86)
  5. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (86)

As for the Xbox One, there was actually a game that beat It Takes Two in the form of Curse of the Dead Gods, which scored a whopping 90 based on five critical reviews. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life wasn't far behind with a score of 87.

Back to It Takes Two, though - we absolutely agree with the Metacritic average on this one. We had an absolute blast playing through Hazelight's unique adventure, calling it "a magical slice of co-op heaven" in our review.
