The Coalition, the team behind the most recent Gears game since the Xbox One era, is hiring multiple roles for what seems to be the next step in the franchise.
One of the studio’s cinematic producers shared the job listings on Twitter, which leads to a variety of roles, including engineers and community managers. The developer is looking for people who can help create “mind-blowing Gears of War games”, with a few listings stating its aim is “to forge the future of the IP and push the limits of Microsoft’s entertainment platforms and devices.”
Some notable roles include a lead level artist, with a description asking for someone who is “dedicated to pushing the Gears franchise to new heights”. The last mainline entry dabbled in open-world design in a fairly satisfying way, so maybe that concept will be expanded on.
Gears 5 is still going strong, with a new Operation that launched this week, that delivered new maps, skins and more. There’s also Gears Tactics for those looking for something different, which hit consoles alongside the Xbox Series X|S launch last year, as well as a PC release earlier in the year. Whatever The Coalition has up its sleeve, we’re excited to see where the franchise is going.

Love the Gears games, can't wait to see what the put out next!
I enjoyed Gears 5 but wasn’t a fan of the open world elements. Not every game needs to be open world and have side quests. I actually preferred Gears 4.
Let’s see where they go, because I’m pretty sure they’ll expand on the open world stuff rather than not. I really loved Gears Tactics though so would be up for another!
@Fenbops I agree it was a great game but I've always loved gears & the linear level design I also thought it was abit odd having the choice of who to save like how is that going to work in the next game will they scrap that & just make one of the endings canon or what
@Would_you_kindly I'm guessing you'll get a choice who you chose to save in Gears 5 at the start of Gears 6, and then they make small adjustments to the story based on who you picked, but on the whole, it's probably more or less the same.
@Would_you_kindly the choice was odd and didn’t really make sense, nor did I really care but chose the one I felt would be the most interesting. With 6 they’ll either have to choose who is canon or play it out 2 different ways I’m not sure.
I know the studio is built dedicatedly for Gears but can't the studio make something else too? We all love Gears but too many of 'em might not be a good idea. How about a change? Similar to Playground games who are also now developing Fable after a series of Forza Horizon titles. A new IP, perhaps? Or a sequel to something like Quantum Break?
@Fenbops I completely agree. I loved gears 5 but the open world part felt honestly quite boring. Go here kill grubs turn on radio tower then do it again at another location. Open world games are not always a good thing unless the missions are engaging and rewarding.
@Wilshiire The snow sections were lame but the sections in the red/crimson desert worked well for me. I even think that it was overall rather well received by critics.
Still Gears 5 is such an underrated gem of a game and I hope the franchise continues strongly. Microsoft has so many studios now that they don't have to kill one franchise to make another one.
@chicken_chaser A sequel to QB would be very out-of-nowhere because I rarely see anyone demand it online. Even if it was to be made it's better to just contract Remedy for it again.
The thing with coalition is that every decision and everyone hired is there because of Gears/ to make Gears. Now Xbox has so many studios that they can have 10 different IPs going at any time. It doesn't have to come at the expense of pausing Gears for a decade. But if Coalition grows so big to have a 2nd team to make something else alongside it. Why not?
