After heavy speculation originating this morning regarding the gaming world’s worst kept secret, it turned out to be correct, as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is coming to Xbox Series X|S on March 26th!
Activision revealed the news, stating that the critically acclaimed remake is making its dive to next-gen. However, only players who own the Deluxe Edition are eligible for a free upgrade. Anyone who owns the digital version of the Standard Edition can choose to upgrade to the Deluxe Edition for $10, but physical owners don't get that same luxury.
Yeah, confusing...
The Xbox Series X|S update will see the game jumping to 120 FPS at 1080P, or 60 FPS in native 4K. Not only that, but a whole range of other graphical upgrades have been made, including “improved resolution, spatial audio, high-fidelity atmospherics [...], sharper dynamic shadows, reflections, and lens flare, plus enhanced skater textures and more.”
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 joins Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time in getting a next-gen patch next month, both by Activision. However, the latter will be available to upgrade for free for both physical and digital owners through Smart Delivery, so it’s baffling why the same can’t be done here.
Will you be picking up the next-gen version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2? Let us know in the comments below.

Activision's horrible practices, at it again...
Eh. Like I said in another post, I've pretty much rinsed the game; add in the later games as expansions and we'll talk.
Activision doing their best to be a convoluted and contradictory as possible...
My guess is licensing.. music soundtracks are not cheap why very few games due it nowadays because it can ***** porting a game
@Terrin They'd be pretty stupid to not account for the next gen consoles in their licensing. They definitely knew the consoles were coming before they finished this game.
I also see no mention of what owners of physical copies can expect to pay...
@VenomousAlbino looks like disc users have to pay the full price.
Not that I was going to buy it, but having read this I'm more than glad to pass
@Trmn8r my guess is they did take it into account. Why we are seeing them ported but most likely unable to do cross purchase.
Or you know activision 2-3 years ago when starting these games.. not thinking about cross buy
@abe_hikura Yeah, that was my assumption. The silence speaks volumes.
@Terrin Considering Activision's history already with cross-buy, I just think it's an extra money grab as usual. 2K is the only other company that seems to do this kind of stuff.
So glad I got the physical copy! 🙄
I wonder if this has something to do with licensed music?
@Xiovanni
It's the same horrible practices made on PS5... This isn't just an issue on XBox...
I have the PS4 disc. I’ll probably buy the Digital deluxe version on series X. Wanna try 120fps! Also will buy this on Switch. I’m happy to triple dip, because I want to encourage more companies to pay the $$$ to re-release older games with licensed soundtracks. I’m looking at you Jet Set Radio Future!
Not surprised, they had a momentary lapse with the free upgrade for Crash 4, back to their usual form now.
I own the standard version digitally, hmmm, they are probably still gonna get my money. I suppose you get the upgrade plus whatever is in the deluxe edition.
I hate its €10 extra but glad it will get a next gen update.
Still need to finish the game.
I wonder if the £10 extra is because Vicarious Visions have been moved to Diablo II: Resurrected after this game shipped, so some other team have probably done the work for the next gen version.
Unlike with Crash 4, where the original developers, Toys for Bob, have done the next gen work, maybe why it's a free upgrade?
Well it's a good thing I got the digital deluxe edition, but this sucks for people who just got the regular edition not knowing about this and wanting it on Series X.
