Update (Thu 25th Feb, 2021 20:00 GMT): We've got a date! Koei Tecmo has revealed that the North America and Europe release of Samurai Warriors 5 will arrive on July 27th on Xbox One. Mark it in your calendar!
SAMURAI WARRIORS 5 marks a fresh, re-imagining of the franchise, including an all-new storyline, as well as revamped character designs, and a stylish new visual presentation.
Original story (Thu 18th Feb, 2021 19:15 GMT): Koei Tecmo has announced that Samurai Warriors 5 will be smashing its way onto Xbox One this Summer.
While no release date was announced outside of a Summer window, it’s said to feature an all-new story, revamped character designs, and a stylish new visual style. More information is promised in the first monthly stream of the game, which will begin on February 25th.
“A new beginning to the Samurai Warriors experience, the title launches gamers into the Sengoku period, shining the in-game spotlight on characters Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi. But what’s behind the electrifying Samurai skirmish?”
The series began in 2004 on the original Xbox and has acted as a side series to the ever popular Dynasty Warriors. It also marks a return to Xbox, which last saw an entry back in 2006 on the Xbox 360 with Samurai Warriors 2. Let’s hope it makes a striking return.
Will you be slashing you way into Samurai Warriors 5 when it launches? Let us know in the comments below.

A lot more Japanese games seem to be coming back to Xbox.
Great to see more Japanese games coming to Xbox.
Kinda sorta looking forward to this game
@Snake_V5 @Krzzystuff still not enough like why is Atelier Ryza 2 on PS5, PS4, Switch and PC same goes for Persona 5 Strikers and Legend of Mana showed last night at the Nintendo Direct
I can think of others as well which are basically on every format part from Xbox
@Medic_Alert the artstyle what piqued my interest compared to what we see from Dynasty
@masofdas same. But I like fan service like that..
I’m excited about this I haven’t played a samurai warriors since the 2nd game
I'd play a Musou game set in contemporary Britain where it's Black Friday at Asda.
@VenomousAlbino Wouldn’t that go beyond the mature rating?
I'm really happy about Xbox getting a lot of Japanese support and we have to thank Phil Spencer for that (Dragon Ball, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Samurai Warriors, Valkyria Chronicles...). I hope that Balan Wonderworld is a good game, it looks great.
@BlueOcean the demo wasn't close to great.
