Developer Xaviant has announced that battle royale game The Culling: Origins is finally coming to back to Xbox One on May 14th following a server shutdown last year. The game will be $5.99 (with a one-day trial before payment) or free for everyone who purchased or downloaded it previously. However, there are restrictions in place.

You'll be able to play one online match of The Culling: Origins for free per-day (with an extra token granted for every win). Further online match tokens can be purchased separately, or players can buy unlimited online play for up to 30 days. Here are the prices:

  • 3 online match tokens - $0.99
  • 10 online match tokens - $2.99
  • 20 online match tokens - $4.99
  • 7 days unlimited online play - $1.99
  • 30 days unlimited online play - $5.99

“Our new approach focuses on sustainability - we’ve optimized our systems to keep server costs low and we’ve shifted our monetization approach to ensure that players will be able to visit the island for years to come. Initially we’re focusing on Xbox One with this effort, but we’re working to bring back the PC version in the future.”

Xaviant says that the new version of The Culling: Origins features a dramatic improvement in graphical quality, overhauled AI behaviour and a tweaked player stamina system. Additionally, the game "no longer includes premium items or charges for crates," with items (and levelling up) available to unlock via offline play.
